Yep, it's 4:30 in the morning and I'm basically torturing myself for some alone time.

I had a similar thing where for a long time I didn't want to sleep because I'd rather be doing something, but then in the morning when my alarm would go off and I hadn't slept much I'd want to sleep more.
I started actively flipping it around in my mind and thinking about that feeling I'd get in the morning when I'm going to bed instead. It's helped me get in the mindset more of it as a blessing to have time to sleep. Maybe that could help?

Hm, have you listened to any of Huberman Lab's podcast episodes on sleep?
Also personally, I've found some simple things helpful like: white noise machines, 2 layers of blackout curtains, keeping the room cold, no visible alarm clocks, just taking a sip of water before bed (enough to be hydrated without having to take a leak), and not looking at screens for an hour or two before bed and then NOT AT ALL until my alarm goes off in the morning (In my experience, if you wake up and check your phone even just for the time, you're screwed).

I totally get this.
I've often delayed going to bed just so I can have leisure time on those days when I feel like I didn't have any. But then I feel like crap the next day..
In the end I think there's a balance there. Maybe you can still have 40 mins to yourself at the end of the day, but not at the expense of your health / how you feel?

I was on a medication to manage nerve pain, which was Lyrica based and I have since found that the doctors were just treating the symptom and not looking for the cause. The medication caused a few issues including health issues due to my diabetes which it threw out of whack.
Unfortunately, the medication also caused other mental health problems which I was unaware of until it was too late. I have since gone through the detoxification process and am no longer on the medication. A friend has since told me that the side effects will most likely last for longer than I was on the drug. Bit scary w ..read more

Please get your thyroid checked out.
Also, if you are on any OTC or prescription meds look at the side-effects of them-I now that some have caffeine.
Then there is the fact that even if you have coffee upon awakening, it takes a long time for it to go through its half-life in your body where none is left.
Then there is the chance that some of what you eat and drink has artificial colorings acting as neurotoxins which might be keeping your mind active.
There is unresolved trauma which we are usually not in direct contact with and if you do have unresolved traumas there are therapies such as ..read more

I don't think that is sleep apnea.
It's like I have an alarm in my brain.
If someone went through this and found a cause please help.
I want to point out that I worked in shifts but that was 5 years ago.

After spending all my time on adult tasks; parenting, my partner, my life, parents, stress, work..
Night is my time, and I do not want to let go. Maybe I could sleep if I wanted to but it's really hard to give up the only alone time I get ever. Anyone else?
