My uncle mounted him and did a great job! What surprised me was the amount of white this deer had that I didn't remember also the amount of work my uncle did to hide the scars. In the moment of that day it didn't dawn on me how many he had . Im Super happy and he's a unique deer for sure and he fits right in on the garage wall. If I get to cleaning up the garage this weekend I'll take a picture of the wall of them . They may not be monsters but they were all trophies in my book! For those... Read more ..read more

Compound Bow w/ No Sights

After watching this video with Joel Turner, I've gotta try this method of shooting. I'm already shooting traditional bows with a string walking method, so this should be easy to adopt. The flatter trajectory of a compound should make shooting inside 30 yards with the same "hold" for a point of impact. I'll have to wait a few days for the weather to calm down, so I can shoot outside, but it should be fun ..read more

The Saga of Kyle

In the course of history, calling this story a saga is hyperbolic. But in the scheme of this season, it became one as the season drug on! Entering my 23rd hunting season, I had built better storylines with older and bigger bucks, but none of them gave me the runaround like Kyle. As a spoiled Buckeye fan, I was part of the contingent of fans who felt like we could do better than Kyle McCord at QB and lamented the fact that he was our #1. It was a similar judgement with The Split Brow 8 or... Read more ..read more

Does It Make a Difference When You Shoot Does?
The Ohio Outdoors » Bowhunting Ohio Whitetails

I've always waited until after I shoot a buck, before I start shooting does. Does are a "buck magnet" and as long as they're in the area, so are the bucks. (Just my thoughts) In my home area, this is how/when I choose to shoot does. In other areas that I hunt, I won't hesitate to shoot does, throughout the hunting season. This type of selective shooting, doesn't seem to alter the bucks' behavior in that area. Do you think it makes a difference, when does are shot during the... Read more ..read more

I jumped off of here last year out of nowhere when I was in a bad head. First off I'll man up an apologize for that , got some issues here and there an make rash decisions during those times. Guess you could call it a vet thing to a point not to blame it on something but my point is I felt like an idiot afterwards and stayed off since. Been lurking throughout the year and season and truth is I miss communicating with fellow Ohio hunters especially this crowd. I've stayed silent through my... Read more ..read more

Disassembly of Steel Force Hellfire

3 Rivers Archery has the Steel Force 4 blade, steel ferrule, in 200 gr. for $20. I purchased 2 packages of them and as soon as I put my hands on them, I attempted to disassemble them to put a fine edge on the main blade. Not a chance! There's a locking ring that can be turned and removed, but the blades will not come off. I've had a pair of vice grips on the main blade and pulled on the ferrule with a lot of force and it will not separate. These broadheads are... Read more ..read more

Been passing young bucks the last few weeks after a slow start to the season. I had only two on my hit list. One at Mingo Sportsmen and one behind my house. Once hunting pressure began both vanished, minus one sighting on Friday of the one by my house standing in the neighborhood while I was on my way to work. Yesterday morning was insane. Saw 7 different bucks. One of them was a real nice up and coming 10 and the other an up and comer with a split brow. The split brow went by me... Read more ..read more
