I'm a complete newbie at radio restorations and I was asked to try and repair this old(ish) radio for an aunt of mine.
It says on the front "Singer PP-188" but I couldn't find anything about it online so far.
On first inspection it was a simple problem: the batteries (2xAA) leaked and corroded the battery contacts to scrap, so I got a new battery box and tried to solder the leads from the new battery box on to the existing +(red) and -(black) wires.
But it seems those wires are so thin and/or so weak that they broke at the solder points on the main board.
My problem is this: how can I remove ..read more

I'm starting in with vintage radio repair, what is a good source for capacitors kits? Looking on Amazon most contain a lot of capacitors I don't think I'll need, or the voltage is way too low.
All responses appreciated

I only took one photo as I wanted to show my mum, but now I’m wondering, could anyone tell me the age of this model?

Stumbled across this NIB Samsung BT-123AJ in a box lot i got at a sale for $1. Is this something to be excited about? Radio works well but unsurprisingly I did not find any channels on the TV setting.
Thanks

I was running my set when a resistor blew up. No big deal until I realized I couldn't read it. Checked the schematic and where it should be located, on going from one pin to the other on the 35Z5 and it didn't actually exist. Then I looked at the photos I took of the radio prior to repair and saw the colors are different on it! Not just that but the pilot light that this set has also doesn't exist on the schematic or the radio from factory! The radio refuses to operation without the resistor so I'm stuck until I solve this. What even could be the deal here? I have yet to encounter a situation ..read more

I cannot for the life of me find a single example of this radio in Peach/pink mirror glass. It appears to be a Sparton 66A, but all of them I see are in leather or wood.

I Thought yall might like to see this vintage Westinghouse. I wish I could dive into a project like bring this back to working Condition. It's in stunningly nice shape for how old I imagine it has to be. Anyone here know how to tell when it was made?
