Colander ground plane prototyping boards

Over in another place https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/show...ost1635697  there's a discussion about prototyping boards with pads on one side and a ground plane on the other. They are known as colander ground plane boards. I have used them and they are excellent. For video and RF work you really want the ground plane. Even for audio having a ground plane stops all sorts problems. I haven't bought any for years and I remember them as bit expensive. A quick google says that various places have them available (Vero make them, amongst others) but the prices are indeed a bit expensive ..read more

Hi All, As the title suggests, I have a Beautiful Sanyo g-2615n, sad thing is the cassette door is a little wonky, but most importantly the belt is gone I've found a picture of the belt from the pic below https://audiomuzeum.hu/wp-content/upload...ronics.jpg but for the life of me I can't actually find the dimensions for the belt itself!! I've tried a elastic band (simple coloured one) to test the tape part actually works which it does but obvs being the wrong belt it's it's warbly. Does anyone know of an appropriately sized belt I could grab, or the size in general so I can get the tape ..read more

The 1937 London TV cable

In 1937 a twin-axial cable was laid around London, terminating at Alexandra Palace. This allowed outside broadcasts to be done from various locations. The first of these was the coronation of George VI. There are scenes of the cable being testing and pulled-in in the famous film "Television Comes to London". I've taken a screenshot of the scene where they are greasing the cable to ease its path into the ducts. Thanks to Gordon Lean, the retired head of BBC Transmitter Capital Projects, the BECG now has a piece of that cable. I colelcted it yesterday. We need to tidy up the exposed end so can ..read more

While on holiday in north Devon I saw this antenna. It's just about visible in streetview: https://maps.app.goo.gl/mbUaTF83Fy1Jy3Qv7 Approx 50°57'20.4"N 4°32'07.2"W It looks very tatty, unlikely to still be used. Any ideas what it might have been used for?   southole_antenna.jpg (Size: 724.86 KB / Downloads: 30 ..read more

3M had one of these for testing 206 in 2", 1", and 0.5". What I didn't know was there was a version where all the electronics for the channels were above the deck instead of 16 above and 8 below. Mind you "our" machine had a sad outing when the room aircon leaked water through the ceiling one night while the thing was switched on. Fixing that must have been fun.  IIRC the affected bits were sent back for "repair" which seemed to consist of running some solder over the somewhat green pcb traces. Curiously enough, running those three differing tapes widths on the same capstan seemed to ..read more

Cossor 464ac faulty Oscillator coil
Golborne Vintage Radio Forums

There is a thread running on UKVRRR about the short wave oscillator coil on a Cossor 464AC. It seems that the poster has one where the coil has rotted away and tuned green. Not uncommon on a badly store set. This coil is only 8 turns of wire. The poster "Afeftereos", is under the impression that this is resistance wire and he may well be correct. However he and some of the respondents think that it is 26 ohms when the Cossor manual gives the resistance as 2.6 ohms. As I am banned and cannot reply could some member common to these forums care to correct them please? Thanks, Sam ..read more
