Flying to White Island, New Zealand’s Most Active Volcano

A couple of months ago, my job sent me on an unexpected trip to New Zealand for 25 days. It happened fast – I was offered the trip a couple of weeks before and had less than 24 hours to let them know if I could make it – but after rescheduling my flights to NYC so that they didn’t fall within the same dates, I accepted. The purpose of the trip was this: familiarize myself with New Zealand as a destination, meet the suppliers and test out all the product. From a marketing perspective I was meant to look at a few other things as well, but the big picture was to be there and experience it. S ..read more

If you’re anything like me, you remember your very first designer fashion item and the day you bought it. There’s something about taking the plunge – diving deep into your wallet – and procuring a coveted item that brings a little adrenaline and a lot of joy. Something that’s so much more meaningful than your average shopping trip, and chances are the item will outlast most others in your closet. After all, if you’re like me you had to scrounge, save and practice patience a hundred times over before you could actually buy it. After all, designer fashion isn’t cheap. The trick I disco ..read more

The Shoes You Honest to God Need Right Now

I can’t tell you guys how many winters I’ve spent with wet feet. Every single year I get into this mindset that I can make it through both fall and winter with whatever shoes I already have, and try to save myself some money by not buying new ones. I can’t even count the ways in which my logic makes zero sense. Firstly, I live in Vancouver — a place where we outdo our own records for rainfall year after year. Second, shoes cost a hundred dollars, maybe two and I probably spend that on other stupid things (read: snacks) just the same. Third (and not at all last but honestly who has time for the ..read more

Hiking in Vancouver: 24 Hours on Tunnel Bluffs

Last weekend I did something that I hadn’t since high school — I went on an overnight hike. Call me crazy, but I really felt like I needed to get out of the city, away from the crowds and into mother nature. You know, sweat out the toxins and breathe in that fresh mountain air. The stuff that’s good for you. I’d seen this place on Instagram (rolls eyes, I know) called Tunnel Bluffs, and the pictures really wowed me. It’s located just outside of Vancouver in the Lions Bay area of the Sea to Sky Highway, and it was the perfect size for my not-so-fit self. A quick (albeit extremely steep and some ..read more

Inside the All-New Electric Mazda MX-30

If you know me well, you’ll know about my very first car, Booper. Named after a misread of its Cooper tires, it was a little red Mazda 323 hatchback; beat up, dented, rusted and chipped. It leaked in a couple of places and the locks would freeze solid in winter, but mind you, it was a 1993 model and had been heavily used when I purchased it for $400 in 2008. It was my ticket to freedom, the car I learned to drive standard in so that I could drive to school instead of taking the bus. My pride and joy, it held many memories and many firsts, and it ran without a hitch for well over 300,000 kms ..read more

My Top Picks from the New Mine & Yours Yaletown

On October 21, I got the first peek at the new Mine & Yours store in Yaletown at an opening event held for media, Influencers and top VIP guests. I invited that one friend we all have who encourages us to spend all our money on fashion and dressed up in a checkered blazer with black jeans, riding boots, my Hermes belt and Chanel bag to pop across the street (it’s just a dangerously close half block away from my apartment). My first impressions? The store is absolutely gorgeous, which was impressive considering I’d been closely following along on Owner & Founder Courtney Watkins’ Instag ..read more

A Raw (And Totally Honest) Review of Lahana Swim

Over the course of the past year, Australian-based swimwear label Lahana Swim has released a number of collections: Ranger, Cult Classic, Betty Viper and so on. As a customer of the latter two collections (and some well before what’s listed on their website) I thought it was high time to produce my second totally honest swimwear review. After all, shipping from Australia to Canada isn’t cheap, so you want to know what you’re getting into before actually biting the bullet. About a year prior to my more recent purchases, I ordered the Luna Basic Scoop Top and Luna Cheeky Brazilian Bottoms, both ..read more

What it Really Means to be an Introvert (And Why it Isn’t So Scary)

I’m an Introvert. There, I said it. I used to feel like ‘Introvert’ was some kind of dirty word. Something that you wouldn’t want to be called because it meant you were shy, timid, self conscious and socially awkward. That you didn’t like to be around other people and were, as they say, ‘a bit of a hermit.’  In contrast, to be an extrovert meant that you were confident, cool, spontaneous and sexy. That you were fun to be around, much more outgoing and far more interesting. You can see how I wanted to will myself to be an extrovert. How I would lie on personality tests to avoid getting tha ..read more

28 Life Lessons I Learned by Twenty Eight

A few weeks ago I turned 28, which means that it’s been about six months since the last time I posted and 10 years since I left home to begin my adult life. I get it – 28 isn’t as big a milestone as 19, 30 or 50, but a lot has happened in this past year and I feel that I’ve learned a lot even in these past few months. More than that, I actually put a lot of what I learned into action and am in a much better place as a result. So why not spread the love and share a little of what I’ve learned? If you’re interested (read: care whatsoever), then who knows – you might just find something useful. H ..read more

How to Handle Whatever the Hell Life Throws at You

If you were allowed to ask just one question to whatever mythical or spiritual being was capable of answering it, most people would ask for the meaning of life. I, however, am less concerned with the meaning of life than I am with how to handle it. I’ve been having one hell of a time these past few months with traveling, losing someone really important to me, going totally broke, starting a new job that challenges me to step way outside of my comfort zone, and living in a new apartment with new people. I’ve had moments where I’ve literally started crying on the sidewalk, and I’ve had others wh ..read more
