Lower Yellowstone Falls is even more impressive in person In a recent post, 2023 - What Exciting Adventures Lie Ahead, we told you about our change of plans for next year. Our original plans had us working our way up through the heart of our country, visiting Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks before working our way through Canada, via Banff and Jasper, before arriving in Alaska. Instead, we will spend our summer, June through September, in Wyoming, just outside the Northeast entrance to Yellowstone. It truly is a dream come true. The wilds of Wyoming, and specifically Yellowstone and Gra ..read more

ARB Solis Light Install With An SPOD

We made a recent addition to the front of our Jeep; a pair of ARB Solis Lights. Rather, I made the decision, as Kym felt we already had enough light; we’ve been running our Baja Designs light bar for years and are very happy with it, which has never failed us once. However, I wanted to add a set of spotlights set low on the front bumper to partner with the roof rack-mounted light bar to amplify our lighting capabilities. We often travel in remote, rough conditions at night and can never have enough light. Why go with ARB? We are long-time ARB fans and run a lot of their gear, from our front b ..read more

2023 - What Exciting Adventures Lie Ahead

2022 was quite a year. We had high expectations for what lay ahead as we set out on our new adventure, and reality was everything we had hoped it would be and more. 2023 has big shoes to fill if we are to top it, but we think we have plans to do just that. Our travels have taken us over thousands of miles and 25 stops, most of it spent on the East Coast, an area we know relatively well. The majority of our time found us on or near the beach. The beach is my wife, Kym's “happy place,” and it’s a place that is hard to pull her away from. Trust me! I love the coast and grew up around the water in ..read more

A Bull Elk from Smoky Mountain National Park hanging out in Front of the Cherkoee, NC High School Before we kick off 2023 we felt that it made sense to first look back at 2022. As I begin to write this on New Year’s Day, we wrapped up another year, and what a year it has been. It has been truly a crazy year and one that had two clear parts for us. The first part of the year was spent getting ready for our big adventure. We made the leap and bought our RV in May. From there it was all History, if not an all-out sprint. Finishing the remodel of our kitchen, while prepping the RV, selling the ho ..read more

We finally made the Jump to Dynatrac HD Ball Joints

A complete set of Dynatrac HD Balljoints for the Jeep Wrangler JK As the title states, we finally made the jump to Dynatrac HD Balljoints for our Jeep JK. Dynatrac’s ball joints are well-known in the industry for their strength and quality. They are also said to be the last ball joints that you will ever buy. It is not that I doubted their quality, but rather it was the $629 price tag that set me back. Ball joints are a common wear item on a Jeep JK, which is further exacerbated when you upgrade to larger tires, in our case 35" Milestar Patagonia MTs, and extensive offroad driving. They are w ..read more

A stare down with an enormous bull elk in Smoky Mountain National Park He was enormous, a truly beautiful specimen. He was no more than thirty yards ahead of me with grass hanging from his rack and mud coating all four legs. I’m talking about a male elk, called a bull. He had crossed the street following a female who wasn’t keen on his advances and ended up in the field right in front of me. I quickly crossed the road and left the area to the bull, but this brief encounter was exhilarating and exactly what I needed. I had been struggling and was pretty down. Standing in Smoky Mountain Nationa ..read more

Cool Products From Overland Expo East 2022

Looking out over the sea of vendors at Overland Expo East 2022 Aisles after aisles of vendors. Looking down the rows they look like they never end. Where do you even start? That is what it felt like when we looked out over the sea of vendors from the hill above the showgrounds. That is what was going through our minds when we attended our first Overland Expo, Expo East 2022 on October 7th, 8th, and 9th, at Oak Ridge Estates in Arrington, VA. Overland Expo claims that over two hundred and forty vendors were in attendance but it looked more like a thousand. If you really think about it, two hun ..read more

Jeep JK OME BP51 Shock Install

So we made another major change. A change that wasn’t planned, at the moment at least, and didn’t come cheap. We recently decided to purchase a full set of Old Man Emu’s (OME) BP51 shocks. A full set of OME BP51’s for the Jeep JK We had always hoped to upgrade our shocks, but it wasn’t high up the priority list at the moment. However, this changed when we recently failed a state inspection because one of our rear Teraflex shocks was leaking. If we were going to be buying shocks again, we weren’t going to spend more money on something that we didn’t want. The Teraflex shocks weren’t that old e ..read more

The Jeep Overlander’s Tool Kit

It’s a horrible feeling. I had been feeling some weird vibrations for several minutes but couldn’t figure out what it was. Then suddenly there was a loud bang followed by grinding, a lot of grinding, not good. After getting under the Jeep I finally saw it, I had completely grenaded my front driveshaft, a common problem with lifted Jeeps. There was snow on the ground, and I was on a busy road, so I decided to take the easy option and called AAA and would deal with it at home. Over two hours later I was still sitting there, so frustrated that I grabbed my tools, crawled under the Jeep and had i ..read more

Short Stories From The Road
The Wolfpack Overland Adventure Blog

For some reason, the craziest stories seem to happen to us on the road while we are traveling. I don’t know if it is the main reason why we love traveling so much, or if it just adds to our enjoyment. Whatever the reason, these stories sure do seem to happen a lot. So we decided to share some of them in a new series we are calling Short Stories From The Road. For now, we will be sharing stories from our past travels, and once we get back on the road we hopefully will have even more to share then. The 360 Point Turn The first story takes place in one of my favorite places, Gila National Forest ..read more
