Hi, I am seeking some guidance on what my liabilities would be if I were to accept a shareholder request to become an interim Director for a limited company and registered with Companies House. This would be for a short period of time 6-8 weeks, but I am concerned as to what my liabilities may be for any previous suspected nefarious activities or existing liabilities caused by the current director, who is about to be voted out. The shareholders have asked if I would fill the role... Read more ..read more

Hi, I've been running my business and registered with Companies House for around three years. I was not aware that I should trademark my name and have just been contacted by someone with a similar name. They registered their name with the IPO in 2019 but have only just started trading. I've had some emails with this person and he seems reasonable and has not asked me to stop trading under my name. If I was to register my name with IPO and he didn't object, would it be accepted? For clarity... Read more ..read more

Hi Can someone kindly point me in the direction of a company that can provide debt collection on a no-win, no-fee basis for debts around £2k? I have a few unpaid CCJ's which are about £2k each, I have emailed a few collection companies, but they stop responding once I have told them the CCJ value. I assume a lot of debt collectors will only work with larger debts. Thanks ..read more

Liability for loss of customers goods sent by courier

Sole trader, repairing vintage amplifiers. I arrange courier collection from customer (private not business) or send them a QR code so they can take the item to a parcel shop for delivery to me. I fix it and send it back to them by courier. They pay for the carriage but it's subsidised by me - I don't pass on the total cost, as an incentive and a cost of attaining customer. Some of the items are expensive, like £2,500 but typically £500 or so. I am concerned about what would happen... Read more ..read more

Can you dismiss someone who's been absent, he's in his probation and sent a sick note for SSP?

So I have an employee who's been quite absent and not turning up for work. He did this last year too and ended up on SSP for 18 weeks due to mental health, he went down from his position and this year hasn't had a great year as a sales assistant. As mentioned we put on probation again on a different lower position and also lowered his hours, unfortunately due to personal issues and mental health he now has sent a 3 months sick note applying for SSP (which is of course paid by the company)... Hi, 2 years ago I have rented an office space for my company. Recently, we have moved one of our offices to another location at the end of the contract by prior notification to landlord. After the contract termination end, we have requested our deposit back and landlord does not pay till now. They have sent an invoice which denotes one line item as "Dilapidation's & Repairs". We have sent email twice to ask the reason of this invoice, but they have never replied. And additionally they... Read more ..read more

Hi all, looking to get some advice/guidance on a situation that we find ourselves in. We will try to explain it as succinctly as possible. We run a commercial cleaning company and we have a client, let's call them Eng, who we have cleaned at their premises for 33months (don't know if the time frame will make any difference). All contact with Eng has gone through their manager and all payments from them show on our bank statements as Eng. We invoiced at the end of February for the work... Read more ..read more

Hi everyone, thanks for reading, hope somebody can assist! I bought a car that turned out to be very faulty, and upon receiving the V5 document it was a Cat S, that wasn't disclosed during sale. Tried returning the car 5 days later, for the dealer to refuse, then offer me half the money back, then offered to take it and pay me 2 weeks later, so in the end i filed it with small claims court for the full amount back. They didn't attend court, and i was awarded by default. The defendant didn't... Read more ..read more
