Yet again, we are writing about it. Yet again, there is victim shaming. Yet again, we are heartbroken, sending prayers, and wondering "Why can't we just go out for a run without fear?" I hate writing about this but it sits so heavy on my heart, that I'm at a loss of what else to do. This is so messed up and something that affects us all. Women can't go out without being targeted. Why can't we go out in a spo ..read more

Hitting The Wall at Mile 25 of 26.2
Running & Schmidt

Less than a month ago I had a pretty big life/career curve ball thrown at me and it was just as bad as hitting the wall at mile 25 of the marathon. The app that I had worked with and put a lot of my heart into unexpectedly announced that it would be dissolving. To say I was heartbroken is an understatement. Just like that, I went from running full speed ahead towards the finish line to being told that the race was being called off. I wasn't the only person reeling from the shutdown. Our entry community, staff, etc. were left with a very daunting question. "What now?" If running has taught me a ..read more

My Running Essentials

Even though running at it's core only takes a pair of shoes and a crazy dream---I love a good gadget/creature comforts! I've tested many different brands/items over the years and am consistently finding more that are awesome so I figured an update on my favorites was in order. Before I go any further I am putting a disclaimer that this post does contain some affiliate links and if you decide to make a purchase I may receive a small commission at not cost to you. Never any pressure to use them, if you do decide to then thanks! :) With the "business" stuff out of the way, let's lace up and get t ..read more

Balancing Running With Rest
Running & Schmidt

This isn't the old R&R that you often hear about. You know what I'm talking about: that unplugged vacay of rest, relaxation, and a golden aura of joy. TRUE rest and relaxation do sound good right about now though….IJS The R&R we are talking about is like a hungry toddler---if you don't feed them in time it's a catastrophic meltdown. That fine balance between managing all the factors at play while also keeping your sanity. Parents: you get what I'm saying. Making sure you rest enough as a runner is a fine line between not pushing hard enough and pushing too hard. One toe over that line ..read more

How to: Survive Summer Running

I get it, it's HOT with a capital "HOT" throughout the country right now. (If you are in the UK especially I know y'all are dealing with record temps). It can be extremely difficult to get outside during these hotter months but I'm here to tell you that you still need to do it! Treadmills are a life saver AND also similar to a medieval torture device. I am not a huge treadmill lover but I do see the merit in them nonetheless. While I am all for cranking out the miles in the air condition it is not the end all be all. Treadmill lovers: hear me out before you send me hate mail. Treadmills can he ..read more

Triathlon Recap: Pt II

Racers to the starting line!!!! Everyone was bouncing up and down waiting for the start, the energy in the air was palatable. I was in the "Super Sprint" division and had my bright red cap secured, ear plugs in, and my nerves officially freaking me out. We lined up two by two (cue the "Ants Go Marching In" song) and were told that each pair would be spread out by 5 seconds. Let me tell you, those 5 seconds felt like an eternity. I just kept eyeing the water nervously while willing time to go faster. Being about 5 pairs back I had JUST enough time to register "Oh, shit. This is actually happen ..read more

Triathlon Recap Pt: 1

If you read my blog the week before my Triathlon you know that I was in less than a stellar head space. My training cycle didn't go as planned, I was getting waves of nausea on every swim, and overall I just was having a very down time contemplating a DNF or DNS. If I'm being honest (which I pride myself on) I was a bit ashamed to share just how cruddy I felt. I try to stay positive and practice what I preach but sometimes no matter who you are, it's hard. After publishing that blog I started thinking about it A LOT. Going over it and over it in my head of WHY I was letting it all get to me so ..read more

You Want Me To Do WHAT?!

Just like I once said I would never be a runner, I also said I would never run a marathon. However, since I uttered the words “never” a long time ago, I’ve learned that it’s one of the most meaningless words in the English language. It's also the BIGGEST lie we ever tell ourselves. I find myself still shaking my head and letting that never word creep in. Then I promptly tell it to shut up and do things that I probably should have given a second thought. You would think by now I would stop being surprised when I sign up for something and then have reality hit.....but, NOPE! I shared a while ag ..read more

Moving Forward Together Accountability Group

Guess what’s back?!?!? Super excited to be opening up the registration for our 2nd accountability group of the year. Amy and I have teamed up again to focus on three things that can be challenging for both runners and non-runners alike. Nutrition Movement Mindfulness Our goal is to break these three BIG pillars into smaller more manageable pieces. We are all busy and most of us don’t have time for complex challenges only to quickly abandon after the group is done. That’s exactly why all of our weekly goals are programmed to be complementary to our day-to-day lives vs a constant struggle. Our ..read more

How To: Break In New Shoes
Running & Schmidt
by Shelby Schmidt
2y ago
It’s a tale as old as time; runner needs shoes, runner puts off getting shoes, that same runner finally breaks down and buys a new pair, runner procrastinates using them until they absolutely have to and then is afraid of blisters/chaffing/etc. I have been there MANY times. Even though I know the importance of good shoes with proper tread and cushioning, I hate change. If I can’t get the same shoe version and model I feel like a fish out of water. Luckily though I’ve broken in shoes incorrectly enough to know how to do it the RIGHT way. Starting with the basics of shoe buying: Do go to your l ..read more
