I hate clowns. They terrify me. I don’t have a real life child trauma to attribute it to thank god but I did watch a horrific film far too young than scared and scarred me for life. I’m not going to talk about the film because I have since learned that the director is a piece of shit. There is a certain art to the telling of a short story. It still needs all the elements included in longer work. It still needs a beginning, middle, a satisfying ending. A developed setting, interesting characters. But in far less words. When done well, they are probably my favorite format to read, a succinct narrative in a perfect package. 1. The Nightmare Tree is a collection of short stories. Is there an overarching theme or are they all standalone? The stories in the collection are standalone with a mix of different styles, with the title story being a novella length piece.  They all feature the people of my fictional towns of Fife, Scotland (Pitlair, Kirkness, Balekerin, Drumnagoil).
