In January 2024, I was asked to take part in a collaborative artwork titled Holding Together.
The idea behind the piece of work was seven women each creating their interpretation of Holding Together on a piece of fabric, all cut from the same cloth into abstract shapes. These pieces of fabric would then be woven together on a frame to represent the women holding each other together.
We were given a month to complete the artwork.
CONCEPT AND PLANNING
When I heard the brief, Holding Together, my mind immediately went to the idea of holding myself together, whilst suffering from mental health is ..read more

Macrame is a great way of adding some softness and texture into your decor, however it can be a little intimidating in terms of cleaning. So let me put your mind at ease: it's easy to keep macrame clean!
CLEANING MACRAME BY SHAKING
For most pieces, simply taking them outside and giving them a good shake will be good enough to keep your macrame clean. For wall hangings and plant hangers, you're usually just trying to get the dust off them and giving them a shake is a perfectly adequate way to do this.

In conclusion
As you browse through the Terracotta & Twine website, you might notice that I mention the cord included in all my macrame craft kits being OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified. I do like to brag about this quite frequently, but you might be thinking "awesome, good for you, but I have no idea what that is and it sounds a bit like echoey-texas", which is fair.
So I thought I'd take this b ..read more

Trends can be a pain in the arse.
You don't wanna be re-doing your house every year, but you also don't wanna feel like your house has become a bit of a relic. Thankfully, there are ways to incorporate trends without throwing out everything you own and starting from scratch.
The good news is, macrame is definitely still on trend and can be worked into a stylish interior in SO MANY ways. And also - it's art! Art is always in style, even if the intricacies change a little.
So, I've scoured the trend reports for 2023 (such fun. I'm a massive interiors nerd) and now I can let you know which trends ..read more

Quite often when you see macrame makers posting their 'work in progress' online, they're standing up. Or standing up AND reaching awkwardly above their head.
As a person with health problems (Ehlers Danlos Syndrome) that means I can't always stand up and definitely can't be reaching above my head for any amount of time, I used to think it meant that macrame might not be the right craft for me. But I was very wrong because there are SO many macrame projects you can make whilst sitting on the sofa. Or at a desk. Or in ..read more

Learning macrame
I've mentioned this before in the last blog, but my first attempt at macrame was an absolute disaster. I used knitting yarn instead of a less stretchy macrame cord, the whole thing ended up suuuper misshapen and I gave up. I looked longingly at big intricate macrame pieces on Pinterest and thought "well, I'm never gonna be able to do that!" for way longer than I'd like to admit. I even had specif ..read more
