F-35. No, really, F-35.

SATURDAY 27th JULY ONLY We're not making this one up. We did say we were going to make this the year with a lot of debuts. What we didn't know is that we'd have more than just an Old Buckenham debut. We are simultaneously stunned and immensely grateful to the RAF and our friends at RAF Marham. Old Buckenham will be the first non-military airshow in the UK to welcome the UK's latest, most potent and technologically advanced aircraft; the Lockheed Martin F-35 B. Operated, in this case, by the legendary 617 Squadron (yes, the Dambusters Squadron) this aircraft can fulfil any role you can thi ..read more

North American P-51 Mustang 'Jersey Jerk'

We always like to try and bring you something 'new'. That's not always easy when it comes to eighty-plus-year-old warbirds. You might notice two things about this example of the North American P-51 Mustang. Firstly its rather distinctive colour scheme which airshow aficionados may not recognise and secondly, both of these pictures are taken on the ground. Both points are explained by one simple fact; this one hasn't flown yet since an extensive restoration by our friends at Air Leasing at Sywell. It's usually not a bad idea to have the most famous US fighter of WWII at an Airshow based at a ..read more

Thunderbolt

Back to WWII warbirds with immense power. 2,000 hp from an 18 cylinder engine in the case of this monster - the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt. Monster is the right word - it was one of WWII's heaviest fighters, at 8 tonnes, and was also capable of being both a fighter and a bomber at the same time. Eight 50 caliber machine guns and rockets did the fighter bit, and 1,100 kgs of bombs completed the multitasking. Good at high altitude (up to 42,000') attacking enemy bombers, it also won plaudits as being very robust and capable of surviving enemy fire at lower levels. After the war 'robust' was put ..read more

The World's ONLY Electric Aircraft Display Team
Old Buck Airshow Blog

This is not exactly shocking news (geddit?). Old Buckenham is known as the UK home of electric flight and one of the NEBOAir Fleet of Pipistrel's Velis Electro lives here. The Velis is the world's first type approved electric aircraft. If you've been to the Airshow before you know this, as you've seen these two before. Last year the NEBO Electric Arrows made several historic firsts: The first ever electric formation display in history. At the same time the first zero emission air display happened. Both were the same thing, off the Brighton seafront and made worldwide news. More history happen ..read more

Horsepower isn't everything.

A minute ago we just announced a Mk 1a Spitfire with a lowly 1.030hp. So that's only 1,000 more horsepower than each of these colourful little chaps named, probably by a comedian, Turbulents. With a combined 120hp all four aircraft and therefore the entire Turbulent Team, have at their disposal about the same amount of power as a hatchback. So in an Airshow where we've already announced tens of thousands upon tens of thousands of horsepower already, here's something in the way of contrast. In a minute or two normal service might resume - we've over 30,000hp to tell you about today. Anyway ..read more

'Another' Spitfire

As is always the case the second the last Airshow was over we booked the most famous Spitfire of them all, MH434. Later on we confirmed that the Suffolk Spitfire, owned and flown by George Haye, would close the Airshow. It's the only flying Spitfire in (correct) WWII USAF markings. So what's better than two Spitfires? Three, for example? Obviously and so we're delighted to confirm that MH434 won't be on her own in the sky; she'll be joined by one of the very first examples of Reginald Mitchell's masterpiece; IWM Duxford's Mark One Spitfire. Specifically a Mark 1a (there's a clue, it really i ..read more

Firstly, we know that this rather familiar van is not an aircraft. It should, however, be very familiar as it's probably the most famous butcher's van in the World. Its owned and run by the truly brilliant Dad's Army Museum in Thetford. Sadly, with the loss of Ian Lavender this year, the original cast of, let's be honest, the greatest British sitcom ever are no longer with us. Captain Mainwaring, Sgt. Wilson, Jones, Frazer, Godfrey, Pike and Walker, however, are timeless. Imitation being the sincerest form of flattery, you'll find plenty of fine tributes to the UK's best loved TV show; you ne ..read more

Last year a new display team made their presence very known with a huge roster of show-stealing displays all over the UK. We were able to bring you 50% of them as Patrick Willson took the extraordinary Super Decathlon, a high winged very capable aircraft taken to the extreme by engineering and made his Old Buckenham debut. He's back, but this year he's joined by the other half of the most talked about air display team of 2023; Phil Ansell. Phil's aircraft has one thing in common with Patricks - it was built by. Xtreme, the same company who souped up the Decathlon. That's where the similarity e ..read more

This year we've more parachutes than ever and have already announced the truly astonishing jet powered parachuting team to make their debut. They start from the ground and use their jetpacks to get airborne and then rip up the rule book. These heroes will need no introduction to those who've been before, they're the RAF Falcons the best parachute team in the World*. Whilst Gordi and his team have made the most of the jet engine, the Falcons rely on the biggest engine of them all, gravity. They also rely on prodigious skill, copious training and accuracy beyond belief. They throw themselves out ..read more

We're part of a Revolootion

We listen. Over the last few year's we've been delighted to welcome an ever increasing number of people with disabilities and their carers. To do this we've more than doubled the facilities available for them. This year, thanks to the kind suggestion from a member of the Airshow audience, we've become aware of another leap in improving our facilities for disabled people; RevoLOOtion. The initiative of the Vehicles for Change charity, RevoLOOtion enables disabled children and adults to use the toilet or be changed with dignity and respect, the service helps to break down  barriers that of ..read more
