Is this plastering a good job?

Hi, I’ve never had anything plastered before but I got a media wall built over the last few days and today they plastered it. I’m concerned about a few things and the finish of it on certain places, just thought to ask in case this is actually acceptable and normal? Corners on beading are sharp and don’t join at a correct angle, sorry don’t know what it’s correct name is but the mesh tape is showing through on some places, there’s also scrapes on the plaster and where plaster joins the original wall it isn’t flush. Thanks, based in South Yorkshire, UK. submitted by /u/Unfair_Attention875 ..read more

Need ideas for covering exposed concrete foundation

I'm trying to find a relatively inexpensive way to DIY cover the exposed concrete in our new house. I was thinking stucco but having trouble finding it in stock which got me thinking of other ideas such as mortar or thinset parging. I like that I can get a white thinset mortar but can't really find info on thinset being used in this way, so I'm worried I shouldn't. I'm thinking if I do mortar parging, maybe I paint it white. Mortars I'm considering: - Portland cement + mason sand - Sakrete or Quikrete type s mortar mix Thinset I'm considering: - MAPEI Keraflex Plus Multiple areas like this ar ..read more

I recently had my gutters and fascias replaced after overflow was hitting my exterior wall and causing water ingress. I’m now in the process of drying out the plaster on the interior. It seems dry to the touch now, but every time someone showers in this bathroom, even with the window open and extractor fan on, the damp seems to appear again. It’s almost as if it’s rising to the surface when the humidity increases. What can I do to fix this? The house is in the UK, it’s a 1920s brick built with no cavity. The plaster in the bathroom is not lime like the rest of the house. On the outside th ..read more

Hey guys, further to my previous couple of posts regarding plastering of my artex ceilings, this is how they currently look, before painting. I am no expert but they look as anticipated, especially when considering the entire flat was done for below £2,000 by a friend of mine. Please let me know if your expert eye notices anything out of the ordinary. Cheers! submitted by /u/Kiri_Tuscan [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Advice for tidying up ceiling edges

I plastered my first ceilings last week as a DIY amateur. I’d love advice on how to remedy the edges and what I might do differently in future. You can see in the photo the gaps between my plaster work and the pre-existing coving. I didn’t want to take the coving down for fear it’d damage the wall and because I couldn’t afford to put up new coving after. How do I best remedy this? I’m going to sand some high points to finish the ceiling, so do I just polyfill it and then sand? Or maybe use caulk? Or something else? And what’s the best advice for achieving good edges in future? Most of my ..read more
