Tai Tzu Ying, one of YONEX All England Open’s all-time greats departed the stage for the final time at the 2024 Championships.  As she made her way to the semi-finals, the excitement at getting to play the three-time champion ramped up from opponents. Not since 1994 have Indonesia been the top nation at the YONEX All England Open but 2024 changed that.  Jonatan Christie and doubles pairing Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto claimed two of the top prizes. Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto retained their men’s doubles title with a 21-16 21-16 victory over Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik. The defending champions became the second Indonesian champions of the day after Jonatan Christie won the men’s singles. Zheng Si Wei and Huang Ya Qiong defended their mixed doubles title with a 21-16 21-11 win over Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Higashino.  After a close opening exchange, the Chinese duo powered to the first game and never looked back wrapping up the win in 38 minutes. Carolina Marin claimed the women’s singles title as Akane Yamaguchi was forced to retire at the YONEX All England Open Badminton Championships 2024.  With the game at 26-24 10-1 in Marin’s favour, the Japanese shuttler was unable to continue with an injured hip.
