Hudson has now officially killed a handful of toms. This was his third season turkey hunting and his first four birds he's shot in a blind over decoys. Some really cool hunts but for his second tag this year he wanted to stalk a turkey. Sounded like a great idea to me, he needed something to challenge him more and expose him to some disappointment. haha He's been kind of spoiled up to this point. The first day we could get out was Saturday April 27th. We slept in and were hunting by... Read more ..read more

He always has great articles. It starts out for the everyday hunter (which we need as most hunters still don’t understand this stuff). Then- gets more detailed on the strains, when it was discovered, how it impacts things, etc. Impacts of EHD & CWD …. Worth the read. EHD IMO is the biggest disease threat we will deal with. CWD…. I personally think we all need a very healthy level of skepticism based on the dollars paid for testing & no clear funding for a cure…. All the killing &... Read more ..read more

Seeing IBH post about sunflowers got me thinking. I don't think I've ever shared this little gem before? Quite a few years ago (15)? I planted about 6_8 Giant brand seeds around a garden by my cabin just for fun. They got to be from 9 _12 feet tall and a super heavy stalk. When fall came, the bucks absolutely hammered them!! Since then, I've done it every year. Have not seen even one not get rubbed. 100%. If they get a big enough stalk, even big heavy bucks can't tip them over. They do... Read more ..read more

Whats the best way to maintain a new conifer planting for optimal growth and weed control? I currently use round up and stinger around trees to control weeds but should I plant grass or green strip around them or near them to help control other woody plants from growing in so I can mow between rows? I don't want to plant clover to attract deer near my trees and access path since it's a screen I'm trying to establish ..read more
