My son and I spent a couple of days hunting with my oldest grandson over the weekend. My son and I are tagged out so we are just guides at this point. It was the only hunt the grandson can make this year because of school and other scheduling issues. I was in the forest for 3 days and they were there for 2 days. I've been hunting D5 since the opener, and spent a total of 6 days out in the field. I'm only visiting the area to see family and decided to pick up a D3-5 tag to spend some days up in the mountains. In the 6 days that I hunted, I have spotted over 30 does, and not a single buck! Is this normal for this zone? Am I doing anything wrong? Well after many years of tagging along, now that we are both retired she decided to carry a rifle. We hunted for several days in B4 and then went up this past week to B1. On our way up to camp on Sunday we passed on an ultra micro forky. Once we were settled in we went out for an evening hunt and we found a nice fork, but she was just to slow with getting the shooting sticks adjusted and on target. Typical opening weekend D3 crowds. We went up on Thursday and still had a tough time finding a campsite. Our favorite ones were all occupied. On opening morning, we hunted some areas that had a few openings where visibility was decent. No deer just hunters. Sunday, I decided to hunt some steep areas that are very brushy. Hey, first thread on the forum, been huntin around hwre in slo county and its been pretty tough so far. Ive been researching Jolon area. And cant find too much info on it. I have huntstand app and it shows a bunch of ( what it says) public land off the g14 highway. Does anyone have any info or experience hunting this area? Very intrested in the area.
