Now that the chick hatch madness is winding down well except some people,(FM) would we like to have a eggs swap ? It would give the ones that have never shipped eggs a chance to learn. .(like me) LadyCat can hopefully share how she does it. I was thinking same amount of eggs for same amount of eggs. So the postage should be the same coming and going. Eggs would have to be free. So what do you all think? Might get a little crazy if someone had A but wanted C and then we need a F egg... Two older cabinet incubators. One is wood. What would be the best brand name for a hygrometer ? I been reading old threads on here for information. Bought 2 hygrometers, one digital, one manual, yesterday. Both are giving different readings. So if you live in a dry climate, that could affect the moisture. I been told.NY here. Lots of rain lately. Bought the wood cabinet yesterday. A old workhorse. Plan is to use it for a hatcher ..read more

Again one of our ducks (Indian runner) was missing about 3 weeks; and this morning there she is with 15 baby ducklings....as if we needed more ducks............ Now we have a mother duck taking care of 15+8=23 baby ducklings. (The older ducklings got out of the pen and came into the back yard where the new babies were; and when my son attempted to get the older ones back into the pen with their mother, the new ones followed. We have now spent nearly an hour trying to get the new mother... Oh dear! More ..read more

Quantity to feed chickens

My chickens like to dig and throw their feed everywhere. It truly irks me to be feeding the mice rather than the hens. How do you decide how much (and when ) to feed your chickens? A certain amount they will clean up in an allotted time? Since they are penned up, I worry they aren't getting enough. Even though I supplement them with all sorts of other stuff and they look healthy and lay well. Any tips ..read more

I've read this info here in several threads, can't find it again in search so thought I'd start a new thread to consolidate this info...and make it easier for others (and probably me...lol) to find in the future. What I remember is that copper sulfate in the blue crystals can be dissolved in the chickens water to eradicate both internal worms and external parasites. Can't remember: Brand Name? Best place to buy small amounts? (my mill sells it in 50# bags for pond treatments) Exact... Copper Sulfate for Poultry Pests ..read more

Hello all, New to Quail. Would like to start small this summer. I found these for sale. Wanted to get experienced Quail owners thoughts on these cages. I was thinking of welding a divider in between age cage so that quail can travel from cage to cage. I like the pipe set up, would most likely use APEX along with a top water tank.....still trying to figure out how it will work out. Down size is that there are no doors. I would have to pull these out to collect eggs/quail. please look over... QUAIL CAGE, New to this. Yay or Nay ..read more
