Driven to ground in ruck

Apologies - having a mental block at the moment. Tried a quick search but have missed any previous post. BC is tackled, tackler releases. First supporting attacker right on the tackler’s heels, comes in and locks on with a solid bind and supports own weight and beats the jackler to the punch. So far, so good. Next attacking player comes in almost immediately, shoulder into the first player‘s butt driving them over and down and seals on the ruck. The next attacker joins almost immediately... In case anyone is interested, or has thought about doing this themselves, I am off tonight to cycle from Lands End to John O Groats. Its great fun, and you see the UK in a very different way. The adventure has started already, the train company taking me to the start at Lands End has just phoned to say our sleeper has been cancelled, but they have after much pleading granted us standing room. A 9 hour stand followed by 75 miles across rolling Cornish hills is going to be a bad start to the... Read more ..read more

Jumper Dummy Throw
Rugby Refs Forum

Came up in my society's group chat, and found that there's nothing in law accounting for it At a lineout, the jumper catches the ball off the top. Jumper then dummies a pass; the defensive line buys it and comes up, now offside because the ball hasn't left the lineout. General consensus is to manage it - make sure the arm stays out indicating the lineout is not over, and giving the defense a chance to get onside ..read more

Statistics help required
Rugby Refs Forum

Could do with a little help if anyone is into statistics? We have a trophy for the club that looks after referees the best each season. Every game is marked out of 4, under ten headings. i.e. Welcome and post match hospitality, marked 1 to 4 Changing room and shower facilities, 1-4, etc To work out the winner I have been adding the scores for each game (so minimum 10, maximum 40 points per game. I have then been working out the average score based on the number of games. So total number... Read more ..read more

Offsides at a scrum for the scrum-half whose team is in possession of the ball?

Law 19.29: Once play in the scrum begins, the scrum-half of the team in possession has at least one foot level with or behind the ball. Click to expand... That's about all that's said in regards to the scrum-half whose team is in possession of the ball. It's quite clear what options the other scrum-half has, whose team is not in possession. (E.g. both feet behind the ball but close to the scrum, or retires permanently at their teammates hindmost foot in the scrum, or permanently retires at least 5... Read more ..read more

Height restriction?

Hey there, I'm a player just looking for some clarification might be a really stupid question. Recently played a game with a 9 on the opposite team who was under 5 foot, I was say he was 4'7-4'8. As you can imagine this made it incredibly difficult to tackle him without it being high. I understand it is on the attacking players to drop there high and make that tackle safe but was just wondering if there was such a law that stated a minimum high Thanks ..read more

4th and 5th officials in the pro game

So with the recent problems in the Quins Bath game, I was just wondering how are the 4th and 5th officials picked in England ? In Ireland in the URC the 4th would usually but not always be a local (from the province that the game is played in) member of the national panel of refs the 5th would be a local ref usually not on the national panel but an experienced ref. They are unpaid - the only unpaid officials at the game. Its a thankless job as if you do a good job you rarely get thanked... Read more ..read more

Cramps

Outside of properly hydrating in the leadup, interested to hear others’ tips and stories for cramps during/after a game. No matter the conditions, I always pack a bottle of Pedialyte and a jar of pickles. I’ve heard athletic trainers tell stories of raiding concession stands for mustard packets, as well. Going forward, I’m keeping two bottles on hand - last night, after an action-packed second half (5-3 split in tries) that saw multiple players from both teams and the center ref come down...
