I have a confession. I’m guilty of wanting my children to grow up so that trips we take together can be easier, grander, and more frequent. I look forward to a time when the list of stuff we have to pack (diapers, wipes, carseats, toys, books, blankets, strollers, carriers, travel potties…) is not overwhelmingly long. Or when the anticipation of hours in a car or plane doesn’t fill me with anxiety. I’m eager to get to a point in their lives when nap times and bedtimes don’t have to be strategically planned and executed for the sake of everyone’s sleep. I’ll be relieved when poop and pee acci ..read more

In honor of Valentine's Day (or perhaps in spite of it), I'm paying tribute to the failed flings that molded my younger years, and the three men that each played a specific role. In case you missed it, I covered my first taste of love—and my first heartbreak—in Part 1 of this series. Catch up here! Otherwise, enjoy Part 2, a heartrending account of false hope and self-doubt, courtesy of: The Self-Righteous Arse (The Holiday's got me speaking British.) THE STORY | Fast forward five years since our last undertaking: I’ve just turned 20, am now in my third year ..read more

Love is a battlefield, part 1.

Seven years ago, just in time for Valentine’s Day, I wrote a 3-part series on love and heartbreak for Her Story Goes, the blog that I started with my best friend in 2016. Even though our site has since been abandoned—what can we say, life got busy!—I find myself visiting our old posts every now and again, just for nostalgia’s sake. The personal ones have always been my favorites, and the “Love is a Battlefield” series tops that list: It covers the three unabashedly honest tales of romantic rejection I experienced throughout my years in high school and college. Despite the melancholy associated ..read more

32 lessons I’ve learned in 32 years.

I’m 32 today, you guys—the same age of my mother when I was born. How is this possible? I could’ve sworn I turned 22, like, yesterday. On the other hand, I was a different person ten years ago, and I’d like to think I’ve grown a bit since then. While there is of course still so much I have yet to learn, hindsight is 20/20. And as I sit in a coffee shop on this very spooky October morning, listening to Taylor’s Version of 1989, I thought it’d be fun to list the personal revelations I’ve taken away from adulthood thus far. Because being 32 obviously makes me the ever so wise adult! (Just kiddin ..read more

This past January, after months of what seemed like constant power struggles with our 3-year-old son, Scott and I deemed it our mission to better understand Jude’s strong-willed demeanor. Family and close friends would tell us not to worry, that his remarkable determination—while tough to parent now—will serve him well later in life. “It’ll take him places,” they’d kindly encourage in the middle of one of our many standoffs. “I’m sure he’ll change the world someday,” I’d reply, defeated, as if the nice sentiment made up for the debilitating lack of control I felt as his mother in the moment ..read more

Lazy girl summer.

Here I am, showing up on the blog after five months of silence, with nothing more than a lazy “currently” post. One, because I haven’t checked in like this since the beginning of 2020. And two, because these days, there’s not much energy for anything else. (That said, I am in the midst of attempting a long-form blog post about parenting styles and how they shape us, but who knows when that’ll be published! For now, you’re stuck with mundane life updates.) CURRENTLY, I AM... Drinking: Trader Joe’s Organic French Roast Cold Brew with coconut water and heavy cream. It’s surprisingly strong! Nuuly This is the first on my list because it’s the one I’m most excited to share—which is unusual for me, because I don’t typically get excited about buying new clothes. Ninety percent of the garments in my closet have been there since 2015. That’s why I was intrigued when I heard about Nuuly, a subscription clothing rental service that lets you pick and choose what you want from 150+ brands, including Anthropologie, Free People, and Urban Outfitters for a small monthly fee. The appeal: Instead of dropping hundreds of bucks on one cocktail dress or pair of jeans, you only spend $88 per month ..read more

Reflecting on 2022.

Trying to sum up this past year in words is proving difficult, probably because 2022 has been nothing but contradictions: It was uneventful on the whole but somehow still chaotic, slower than previous years but also not as restful. The days all looked alike and sort of ran together, and the overarching theme that dominated our year was constant colds and coughs. Twenty twenty-two saw us very prone to sickness. (And in that, we’re definitely not alone.) still both babies in early 2022. It wasn’t all bleh though. Somewhere along the way, amidst many playdates and bedtime stories, I started to f ..read more

The childcare conundrum.

I have a lot of mom friends—some who work full-time, some who work part-time, and a small handful who have put their careers on hold to stay at home. We’re all living under slightly different circumstances, yet there’s a common struggle uniting us: Finding reliable yet affordable help with our kids has proved to be an absolute nightmare. Here in the States, I’m not even sure it exists. But let me back up. Before I got pregnant for the first time, I didn’t think I had it in me to be solely a SAHM (hardest job ever!), but I also couldn’t imagine a world in which I spent 40 hours away from my ba ..read more
