There’s something about a home made berry cobbler that makes me feel all the good of summertime in one simple spoonful. For me it speaks to the slower pace, the long warm days and the joys of spending time with loved ones.
One of the things I encourage my clients to ask themselves and get curious about when it comes to “treats” is “was it worth it”? This simple evaluation tool is really powerful when you’re tying to consistently eat in a way that supports your health and wellness goals. Surprisingly, the answer is to this question is no more often than you may think.

It's June…. JUNE.
I can’t believe my son's 9th grade year is in the books and summer is here! His excitement has been palpable and he has two proud parents who are pretty excited too.
That being said, summer time is another one of those transition times that can be a bit tricky for some of us, especially for us sensitive people.
We live across the street from a small K-8 school and this morning I could hear the cheers of other proud parents at their 8th graders graduation ceremony. I'm a sucker for a ceremony and had to hold back tears.
As a highly sensitive person, it's not uncommon for ..read more

If you're not familiar with fat bombs or fat fudge, they are great little treats that can be used when trying to increase your consumption of healthy fats, curb your sugar cravings or control your blood sugar. When I am leading one of my cleanse groups, I have these in my recipe packet because these are a great tool to help kick cravings.
I love using silicone candy molds to help really make these feel like a treat and elevate the experience. Here is one I like.
There are many different recipes out there that are great. I happen to love this one and find it reminiscent to halavah which brings ..read more

This is a seriously special recipe. I got it from a cooking demo I was lucky to stumble upon by Jessica Prentice at the 2012 Weston Price Foundation Conference in Santa Clara, Ca. She was amazing and my mind was blown. My little one was still a babe and it was at the beginning of my awakening around nutrition, health and healing.
Now, I’m not a mashed potato girl. Now that we have that out of the way, my husband is. I would venture to say mashed potatoes, and now this specific version is his FAVORITE all time food. I so enjoy making these for him as there is nothing like cooking food for some ..read more

If you’re not a fan of raw kale salads or if you’ve never tried one, I highly recommend you give this one a try. It’s got a variety of textures, it’s hearty so you can make it ahead of time and it won’t become a soggy mess, and it utterly satisfying. I’ve been taking it with me when I travel and I plan to make it for Thanksgiving as it will go beautifully with any Thanksgiving meal and I know that if the only thing that looks good on the table is the turkey, this will add everything else I need for a completely satisfying and delicious meal.
Now to be honest, I haven’t always been a fan of ka ..read more

When we start to clean up our diets it is not uncommon for feelings of deprivation to arise. We easily forget that we have come to this point as a way to take care of ourselves and to make ourselves a priority in our lives. There's often a voice that arises that says I don't want to be deprived and start to rebel.
When we start to eat in a way that truly satiates ourself, in a way that not only satisfies and nourishes but provides sustained energy, things start to feel sustainable.
So my question for you is… do you like what you are eating?
Oftentimes we confuse satisfaction with fullness. Th ..read more

I like to think of this as something else!
Ah yes, the lovely and amazing avocado! People often wonder if this little bundle of deliciousness is a fruit or a vegetable.
From a botanical perspective, it's considered a fruit.
From a nutritional perspective I consider it a healthy fat (primarily a monounsaturated fat like olives) and a great source of fiber (a medium avocado has about 10 grams). Both of which will keep you fuller for longer, won't spike your blood sugar and help keep you regular.
These are really good things. When paired with a protein you've hit the trifecta for a balanced meal ..read more

When I was just starting my nutrition career, my son was 3 and oh so cute. Like seriously! He was starting preschool and I was in the infancy of my journey with whole food nutrition. My first nutrition talks were all about healthy lunches. I was inspired and excited to connect and turn other parents onto a real food revolution. I was idealistic and perhaps I a bit naive!
Nate just started 8th grade and I can’t believe I am still at this. I tell you one of the most exciting things about the school year ending is getting a break making his school lunch every day! Needless to say I have lost a b ..read more

The end of summer is that time of year where plums are at their peek and strawberries are still bountiful. This cake is the perfect solution for any of these beauties sitting in your fridge that perhaps are starting to lose their prime… it happens to the best of us!
I love baking. Prior to my fertility journal many years ago and before I started to dive into the world of nutrition and clean up my diet, I was a big baker. C&H sugar and white pastry flour galore. I spent many hours learning from the best… Martha, Lydia and Julia and creating amazing delectables in the kitchen.

When needing inspiration in the kitchen, you can never go wrong with Alice Water’s. I have many of her cookbooks and the recipes never disappoint. This one is from The Art of Simple Food.
I am a huge fan of having some sort of Pistou, pesto or sauce made from herbs, garlic and olive oil in my fridge on a weekly basis. Knowing I always have an ally up my sleeve when I haven’t planned well or am feeling a little lazy at the end of the day gives me the flexibility to wing it.
Not only do these herbaceous sauces add a mouthful of delicious fresh flavor to any meal, they are super nutrient dense ..read more
