I.e. is this tree ok to climb, or is it a MEWP job? It's defintely succumbing, there's lots of epicormic growth shooting straight up from lower limbs. I feel like a bit of a pussy to be asking the question, I'd normally climb a tree like this without a second thought. However, I have no experience with ADB, no idea of the timescales involved. Does the wood only get weak and brittle once the tree has died, this one is obviously very much still alive. The tree belongs to some friends of mine, they've asked me if I want to do it, and they told me they've had another firm in to look who said it wo ..read more

Replacing parts with equal or better rated parts, perhaps of a different brand. I would say it can be safe if done by a competent person, but is it allowable? Would a loler inspector be forced to fail it even if they agree it is safe?
My old harness had fraying and the new unused one has the same part with rough edges, which caused the fraying. If I replace that part, it should last a very long time, rather than months. The old one is due for loler.
I want to replace the bridge metal attachment with a petzl openable ring, as used on older Sequoia harnesses. This will allow me to ..read more

What's your thoughts on it? I know it's not cheap. I've sat in one, and it felt very comfy. Just want views on it. I think the bridge alone would be £150! I think it's a good harness all in all, but time will tell ..read more

Intellectual property rights aside...
This was put together from bits around my house in 10 minutes.
It works and isn't half as annoying to climb with on my harness as I expected it to be (although it has not topped a conifer hedge yet.
Might save someone £50

Hi all
I just wanted to know the name of the type of rope system i use as i never can remember.
I use 2 main ropes each generally on 2 separate anchor points
The rope goes around the union and back to my harness. I use this on both ropes.
Am i right in saying that it is a MRS?
Whatever this system is called am i able to use an ascending device on this particular climbing style.
This was also the way i learnt on my courses .
Many thanks Aaron  ..read more

Simarghu Harness Review...
Having used the old faithful TM V2 for many years thought I'd try the new kid on the block.
So for the past 5 months I've constantly been using the simarghu harness and I can honestly
say as much as it has it's good points the bad seem to outweigh the good.
Ok, let's get the ball rolling...
Floating bridge:
Pro's: Great concept & works well for work positioning when you get used to it.
Con's: Because of the harness design fitting a chainsaw clip is limited. Found when you're in certain positions in a tree you're chainsaw clip &

Hi all
I have a potential Ash removal job that im quoting for.
The tree is around 18-20 m tall and aprox 2/2.5ft near the base . on the base of one of the stems there is dead wood roughly an eigth to a quater of the stem,
My question:
Would this be safe to climb and work on with some small rigging or would a mewp be best. I dint have tickets for a mewp so if this is the case i wouldn't take it on i have attached some photos.
