We hold a special place in our hearts for Champagne. It’s just delicious and fitting for any occasion. But outside of Costco’s Kirkland Champagne which you can buy for $20, buying real Champagne on a regular basis can hit the wallet pretty hard. A really good solution is to explore France’s Cremants from various regions.  They ..read more

Here’s a new Champagne we found hitting the Costco aisles and decided to give a try. And we’re glad we did as it turned out to be a delicious and elegant wine. Costco’s price is pretty solid for $39.99; elsewhere online it seemed to consistently be around $50. We noticed some nice scores from the ..read more

2021 Louis Jadot Bourgogne Pinot Noir

One of our wine goals for 2023 is to further explore the wines of Burgundy, both red and white. So when we see a new bottle at the Costco stores near us, we’re going to buy it and review. Feel free to take this journey alongside us. This base level Bourgogne from a big name producer, Louis Jadot, seemed like a perfect place to start. We have previously reviewed their Macon-Villages Chardonnay, Pouilly-Fuisse, and Chablis, all of which we found at Costco in the $15-$25 range, and thoroughly enjoyed. Costco’s price of $16.99 is just average and about what you will find this bottle selling for a ..read more

2020 Kirkland Signature Series Premier Cru Chablis

This popular Kirkland bottle usually hits stores around this time of the year.  It was a little late last year arriving in March, at least around the Atlanta area. The price actually went down with this latest vintage, just a few cents, but glad to see it not going the other way. Finding Premier Cru Chablis like this under $20 is pretty rare, but that’s what they’re able to do year in and year out with this Kirkland offering. We’ve reviewed four of the past vintages: 2014 vintage: 87 points 2016 vintage: 88 points 2018 vintage: 89 points 2019 vintage: 90 points Still no word on what ..read more

In all the years of running this site, this might be the Costco bottle we’ve wanted to find the most. We love the Costco hunt, but when we first heard from readers this new Kirkland wine was out there, we were hitting our Costco stores left and right trying to find it. Finally, we found it at the Cumberland location in Atlanta. We’ve heard that Alpharetta and Cumming might have it too for you ATL locals. Long time readers will know that Bordeaux, in particular the left bank, and in particular Saint-Julien is one of our favorite wine regions. We had the privilege to visit a few years ago, and ..read more

We are excited to see the new Kirkland Bordeaux Superieur hitting shelves a month or so early. Usually we see this one arrive in the February timeframe. It’s also nice to see the price continue to stay at $6.99 which is really good for the quality we’ve been finding in this wine, especially the more recent vintages. The price had crept up to $7.99 two years ago, so we were surprised to see it not go back up this time. Here are our historical ratings for this wine, going back to the 2015 vintage: 2015: 87 points 2016: 87 points 2018: 85 points 2019: 88 points More good news for this 2020 vinta ..read more

2020 Kirkland Signature Gigondas

This was a welcome sight in the Costco wine aisles – the latest vintage of the Kirkland Signature Gigondas, which usually arrives in Jan is here a little early this year. It’s hard to believe that Kirkland produces a Gigondas bottle as it’s not the region of France you hear talked about all that much. But it should be and we love it; it’s a perfect part of the Rhone valley to explore for great wine values. People often refer to Gigondas as a “baby Chateauneuf,” and we tend to agree. The prices on Gigondas wines are moving in the direction towards Chateauneuf but there are still plenty of good ..read more

This bottle is a fairly familiar sight around Costco wine aisles. It seems to appear almost every vintage, and usually sticks around for a while, especially at the stores we frequent around the Atlanta area. And it’s a real treat because it is just a solid, dependable, and inexpensive wine that you should definitely try if you haven’t tasted it already. We don’t get a chance to review this one every vintage (try to find / taste a lot of new bottles), and the last one we did was the 2015, which we thoroughly enjoyed. As you can see this one always lands in the 89-90 range for us. 2011 – 89 poi ..read more

Here’s a new Champagne hitting the Costco shelves, and the first thing you notice is the super cool bottle design that is short and stubby; neat label too. The price was right at $27.99, which is a level where you rarely find real Champagne, outside of the $19.99 Kirkland Champagne, which we always enjoy. Online the price for this bottle is around $42 so gotta love that Costco discount. It’s highly rated too with Wine Spectator giving this wine 92 points. In the glass the wine is a medium gold; it is loaded with citrus fruit flavor, and green apple; a touch of nuttiness and almond mid palate ..read more

2018 Devois des Agneaux d’Aumelas Languedoc

We weren’t sure what to expect here but had a sneaking suspicion that this might be an under the radar winner. And we were spot on. Languedoc is a region in Southern France, in between the Mediterranean and Rhone Valley, and you can see the Rhone influence in the varietal blend here which is 70% Syrah and 30% Grenache. It’s a region also known for good values, as this one is the perfect case in point. Only $12.99 at Costco. So we knew right away if it tasted as we hoped, we were going back in for more. The placard notes a nice big 91 point score from Wine Advocate too. On the pour this is a m ..read more
