Kohler Generator Damaged in Transport

We recently had a Kohler 38kw generator installed, and we noticed large dents on the backside and the top that bent the panels pretty bad. When we brought this up to the company, they said that this damage was caused by forklifts during transport, and we'd have to take it as is. They offered to order new panels to replace the damaged ones. Questions for you all: Is this a common occurrence, and do we have to worry about any future damage to parts inside... Please move to the appropriate forum if this is not appropriate! Recently I acquired a Champion generator from a relative, model number 200911. I was there in September 2020 when this generator was purchased and helped transport it. Fast forward 3.5 years, relative is passed away, I purchased generator from the family. If I recall correctly back to 2020 I can recall that the fuel cap felt weird, difficult to remove and reinstall. Anyways, the generator sat for this entire time... Proper place for discussion? Hi, I was making some drywall repairs on my kitchen ceiling and as I removed one of the recessed lights, one of the wires accidentally touched the metal housing and shorted out the entire circuit of lights. There are 8 lights on one circuit and one light over the sink on a separate circuit. As you can see in the attached photo, the light that is lit up is the one on the separate circuit. The other 8 lights will not turn on. The first thing I did to troubleshoot it was to check all of the... Short Circuit ..read more

I'm not a pro but have done a lot of simple wiring in my 72 years. I installed LED under-cabinet lights last week and realized they are way too bright so I picked up a couple of dimmer switches. Each under-cabinet pair of lights is on a single-pole switch. I expected only a black and a white wire but have two blacks and two whites. I'm confused as to which is which. Can you help me understand which wire is which? Is it possible this is actually a 3-way switch? As this is in the... Wiring a dimmer to a single pole switch and I'm confused ..read more

I have a small water feature pump (120V) that plugs into a GFCI protected switched outlet. I would like to add an additional separate exterior outlet from the GFCI line feed coming into the switch junction box. See attached sketch. Can I do this? What would the wiring look like? Do I need a 2 wire or wire connection to the outlet? THanks ..read more

Why did they put the light switch here?

I have an unfinished room in my basement. I use it for storage mostly. It's dark and windowless. To enter the room requires opening the door to it, then traversing into the room to the light switch 5-feet away across the bottom of the stairwell. This is extremely annoying. I thought I could "fix" it by installing a smart switch and sticking a Zigbee contact sensor onto the door and let a Home Assistant automation turn the light on when the door is open and shut it off when the door is... New member here. Concerned my electrician is trying to take advantage of me. Here's the situation: I have a small vacation house, about 600sf. I plan to retire there one day and am constantly fixing it up with the hopes it will be great in a few years. It has two very nice sheds (large, nice doors/windows, electrical, dimensional shingle roof, gutters, etc). I am doing all the drywall, flooring, etc, but hired a professional electrician to get the electrical from single leg 30A to two legs... Should I trust my electrician ..read more

Range Outlet

I have a surface mount range outlet that prevents my new range from setting flush against the wall. I assume it is not acceptable to remove the baseboard and notch out a hole in the drywall and move the surface mount outlet partially back into the wall and that I need to just replace it with a metal box and new outlet in the wall. Is that correct or is there any option to reuse the current outlet? I think I need to gain about an inch of space ..read more

Hello Chatroom. I am confused. Can someone put me straight, or offer advice. I have a length of cable terminating at one end with a three pin mains plug and at the other end, three croc clips red, black and green. at the other end. I measured 220 v ac when switched on at croc clips. I plugged a 60watt bulb into ceiling light fitting , checked the ohms of bulb ( 70ohms ) at ends of light fitting wires. I connected mains cable croc clips to light fitting... 240vac and 60watt lightbulb ..read more
