South Louisiana, house build sometime in late 60's/early 70s. Hello lads. I'm a relatively new-to-the-trades carpenter, helping my friend replace his soffit and fascia. He started demo before calling me, turns out the power lines are bolted up to the fascia boards. What are the options available here and who should I talk to ..read more

Hello fellow electricians,
I'm pricing a 400A service upgrade. It includes 350' of 3", schedule 80 PVC from a new pole. The new service panel will be 30 feet from the existing service panel. That panel will be used as a junction box. My materials cost is $14,811. How much labor should I charge? I don't do the trenching. Just a ballpark please. Am I competitive if I charge the same for the labor as the material cost?
Thanks ..read more

I would like to get some opinions. We're having some cubicles removed. A furniture contractor and an electrical contractor were hired to do the removal. The electricians were supposed to disconnect the whips and then the furniture contractor was supposed to follow behind them and disconnect and remove the cubicles. Well, because of scheduling and some pressure to get the job done, the furniture contractor started removing the furniture before the electrician disconnected the whips from...

In July I moved into my new home with Schluter DITRA heated floors in the bathroom. The floor quit working in December, and my GC and a rep from the flooring company that did the heated floor install were here on Friday to troubleshoot with Schluter on the phone. I was home but in another room, and I could hear them (my GC is the loudest person in the world). I heard them say that the issue was that the thermostat and supply were 240v, but they used 120v wire in the floor itself because it...

Good day guys,
We have setups that run inverters and 6 volt batteries. I have a 4000 watt inverter and 8 batteries and each is rated at 357/435. How can I figure out what power I have available? I understand that the inverter is capable of handling a load of 4000 watts/30 amps but the batteries befuddle me.
What are the advantages of a 48 volt setup vs a 24 volt setup? Is there a limit, reasonably, to the amount of batteries on either setup? Is there power advantage to wiring a similar...

Rewiring a kitchen the other day. Found that as I pulled back the insulation to pull new conductors to a switch box.
No idea how long that’s been there. Circuit was live.

I was cleaning some mold off my bedroom walls with CLR Bleach-Free Foaming Action Mold and Mildew Stain Remover (Biodegradable septic safe. Removes tough mould and mildew stains from tile, hardwood floors, and more) when some of the foamy cleaning liquid flowed down the wall and reached a power outlet with one of my surge protected power bars still attached. I tried to wipe it dry, but I recieved a slight jolt. So I pulled the power bar plug out first to continue wiping the outlet dry and it...

Im putting together my new edge sander and it can be 120 or 240 volts. It is pre wired for 120. Is there any reason to run it at 240 ? I can if needed. I was watching a video of the whole unboxing and assemble of the Jet sander and the guy said he thinks it runs better on 240 volts. He didn't say why ..read more

I just want everyone to know that I did a service call in an office today, had to rewire the lights for LED bypass, and I dropped dozens of little 18 gauge pieces of insulation all over.
I then went out to my truck, got my cordless vac, and cleaned up ALL my little pieces of striped insulation.
So, some electricians do clean up after themselves ..read more
