Not sure where you live but Leong has just released his second edition of the Fig Book that will guide you all through your questions and lots more seeing you are into figs.
Not sure where you are situated to advise hard cut back as we are not far off in Australia for the growing season to start slowing down.

I started this dialogue when I was lucky enough to be given this Port Jackson fig approximately 3 years ago. It was repotted last spring 2020 and I’m about to do some shaping as it is looking a bit misshapen.
My main question is about the 100 or so cuttings off it that are now 1 and 2 years old. As per pictures, they are all growing without any natural shape to them. Am I best to cut them back hard, below the leaves, or will this kill them? I am wondering how to get them to form compact growth and start to form the into good specimens, rather than lanky uninteresting cuttings. Advice needed, t ..read more
