Was just pondering fitting a hydraulic winch to replace my broken 13500 electric. One option is a Warrior, with the following specs. I have a power pack which has 200b 5l/min Now i presume pressure gives the pull force and flow gives the line speed? So will my power pack give the full 10000 but at a slow line speed?   ..read more

hello all ,    a good friend called in distress , his 200tdi 110 broke down . so he asked if i could have a look at what's wrong with it , short journey to his home (at this point he had it towed home using his work vehicle), and on arrival the bonnet was already open , ready for a look . engine cranked over , but a bit fast , so opened the oil filler cap and as i guesed no movement on the rockers ....   so we towed it to my place , and started dismantling the engine . removing the timing cover revealed this :   so that's not hard to spot what's wrong .... belt is likely t ..read more

Modern Mini experience - reliability and affordability

Hi folks. I’ll be starting a new job in August that will involve living somewhere in the triangle defined by Birmingham, Nottingham and Leicester (at least temporarily) and leaving my car at East Mids airport for up to tow weeks at a time.  I don’t fancy leaving the 109 that vulnerable for that duration and frequency, and wouldn’t even consider it for the RRC.  I’ll need a moderately cheap commuter, but it’d be nice if it’s a car with a bit of fun.  I quite like the modern Minis, so a good condition one of ten years or older might do the trick. I don’t know much about them, othe ..read more

Had to get one of my pets to the vet after the morning storm.  The roads flooded so fast that there was no information on the radio, Google maps or other media and the police had not had time to get out and block the worst roads.  Lots of people were caught out, including parked cars destroyed just because they were unlucky to be in a low spot.  5.5” of rain in 12 hours, more than half the UK annual rainfall.     The XC90 did brilliantly in some pretty nasty conditions, well over 18” and close to 24” wading in places.  Still, some roads were far too deep, and the ..read more

Potential insanity

Am having more, potentially, insane thoughts. Am thinking about buying a shipping container as I need one or two for a project. Sane so far. A 20ft container weighs between 1.8 and 2.2 tonnes is only 2.4m wide so in theory is could be transported on a 3.5t Ifor or similar trailer. I have two trailers of this capacity an Ifor car transporter and a Bradley flat bed. Has anyone done this, if so would they do it again and what are the likely problems other that the Police not liking the look of the load ..read more

Hi, I picked up a 1992 YJ that came with a Warn 26626 Winch but no remote. I've got the Jeep running and now want to make sure i've got a functional winch. I don't have a remote to test it with and i'm struggling finding documentation online for this model. Any helpful tips to point in the right direction of where or what to test to see how functional the winch is?    ..read more
