Moses,
I have 1981 CJ-8 in which I have installed a 1999 Cherokee 4.0. I currently have a Davis DUI distributor installed. A couple questions:
1. I purchased Howell TBI kit for this vehicle, a Clifford intake/adapter, Clifford dual out Header. I have the engine bare to the manifolds. Installing the header was fine, but Clifford wants the intake manifold dowel pins removed, a pain. Can I oversize the holes in the manifold in order that the dowel pins will not restrict positioning the intake manifold?
2. Will an MSD distributor fit without issues? I used MSD ignition with a stock Mot ..read more

I have a new to me 1981 CJ8 Scrambler plow truck. At the end of last winter the brakes stopped working, pedal went to thefloor and brakelight came on. LAst week, yes quite a while after, I decided to get it repaired for this coming winter. I noticed brake fluid on the drivers side floor.... and verified the master cylinder was leaking out the back piston area.... vbrake likes are not leaking nor is anything on the wheels. The fluid chambers on the master were filled yet on the rear brake section (front) and the chamber (rear - large) was empty. This is a manual front disk rear drum ..read more

Hey Moses, been searching through and utilizing your past information for a long time, first and foremost i want to just say thank you for sharing your knowledge.
So, im finally getting close to starting for the first time in near a decade. The 1893 4.2 had seen better days and got a fresh rebuild which led to being bored over (no clue honestly by how much), port and polished, etc. Its got the older rendition Mopar MFPI..
All that said, i am contemplating better ignition as the parts are already old worn and due for replacement. My question is looking for best recommendations ..read more

Hi! Hoping someone can give me some good advice on a Howell TBI conversion on a 86 California legal cj7, 258.
Just finished the swap and everything looks right according to the directions but I have to say, the electrical instructions are a little thin compared to the rest of the directions.
im not getting spark yet and I’m wondering if there is a good ignition section wiring harness (like a painless harness but ignition only) to match up with the nice new Howell TBI one.
anyway- either help getting started or help with finding an ignition harness would be grea ..read more

I have begun the rebuilding of the 4.2 engine from my 77 CJ-7 barn find project. My local NAPA store in Buckeye, AZ has a reputable engine shop attached and run by an family friend of my wife. Its good to have friends with years of experience to help. I opted for NAPA's deluxe master rebuild kit which is a good value when you get it all at once.
I was pleased with how clean the hot tank process got my dirty block and sheet metal. I had given up on scrubbing and even the pressure washer didn't work well. After taking measurements it was decided to go with the .030 re-bore. My ..read more

Hey Moses,
I have a project I'm hoping to get started on and have a question.
I have an '83 CJ-8 with a worn 4.2 and plan on installing a 4.0 from a complete '93 Grand Cherokee.
The GC is 2wd with the AW4 trans, the engine has ~142,000 miles and has had regular oil changes with Full Synthetic oil. The Jeep ran great when parked. ?
Now the problem is... it hasn't run for probably 15+ years.
I would appreciate some input from you on steps to take to get it running without possibly causing any internal damage.
I'm hoping to tap into your knowledge and experience to set me on the proper path ..read more
