All, I am in the market for options. I drive 30k a year mostly on windy coastal roads and logging dirt roads. I haul around an atv from job site to site 1 to 2 times a week. Most of the traffic is on open roads and not stop and go. I've had two lemons in a row now with GM 1500's. First one a 2017 chevy had two transmissions go out between 76,000 and 95,000 miles and the second, a 2020 in the 3.2l diesel has had 6 visits to the shop in the last year for exhaust issues. The 2020 which... Read more ..read more

Any 55-57 chevy guys on the forum? I am considering picking up a project '57 4 door 210 (I think that's what it is). I don't get to see it in person until tomorrow but from what I have seen I am very interested. Don't know much about them but I have already negotiated a good price considering the small amount of market info I have researched. I'll know more tomorrow ..read more

4L60E or the "4L Slippy"

All three of my vehicles have some version of the 4L60 GM transmission. 2012 Suburban 4x4 (wife), 2013 GMC Sierra 4x4 (daily), and a 1998 Chevy K1500 Suburban (hunt/camp/fun truck). I have done the full rebuild on her trans when the torque converter went to hell and burnt the whole thing down. Turns out those stamped TC bodies where the screw bosses are welded to the body, heat hardens or weakens or something metallurgical the steel and they fail there which pukes shavings into your trans... PSA about leaking trans cooler lines
Refuge Forums » 4x4 / Truck Forum
by darkvibe

I know pretty much every truck with trans cooler lines eventually leak where the metal tubing is crimped onto the rubber hoses. Mine were leaking for a while. No big deal, I kept an eye on the fluid level and planned to replace them soon. They only leaked a little bit. Never found trans fluid on the ground. Well, the leak got a little faster and the fluid got low in between my checking it and it caused what I believe might be a clutch pack to go. I was left with a $2900 rebuild that... My 2023 ford F350 is having problems with the Sync feature that runs some of the phone stuff navigation etc. they tried a bunch of things but ended up getting a new module for it that goes in today. My other ones have never had a problem with Sync including the 2018 hope this fixes it. Too much tech in these new ones, but once you get used to having them its missed when they don't work correctly. I'm told the '23 has had 6 remote updates in it since I got it last March wonder if that's... Read more ..read more

New truck 1,500 or 2,500 so many people I know couldn’t wait to go back to a 1500

I’ve never owned a 2500 yet, just like the thought of pulling a big boat and possibly a truck bed camper. I know over 5 guys who went 2500 but went back to 1500’s for the ride. Are 2500’s really that stiff the rides stinks? I think the prices are dropping a bit. If @bill cooksey has recently bought one the prices should be falling. I should have a Cyber truck for daily driving as well so the 2500 would be used when needed for pulling or loads. Advice please Thanks in... Read more ..read more

New truck tires?

Who better to get recommendations from than hunters! Currently I am running Falken Wildpeaks on my 2018 Silverado. Not a fan of those tires, even though they seemed to have good reviews. Need a good tire for off-road, muddy conditions and also has to be great in snow. Not looking for the giant mud tires, but a good, aggressive tire in those conditions. Why do you all recommend ..read more

Bearings

The other auto repair thread got me thinking. I haven't greased wheel bearings on a car in over 30 years. Why the heck aren't all trailer bearings greaseless? I get boat trailers are occasionally and briefly submerged, but that can't be worse than 70 mph in driving rain...for 100,000 miles ..read more
