Is it even safe to travel at night?

I think most of us will agree that long distance travel at night is now a thing of the past. Lately it seems even just travelling within a few kilometre radius of your home has become unsafe. If it's not spiking incidents which seems to now become bolder and more aggressive and even being practised during daylight it is hi-jackers or high speed freaks killing people. Just read the sad story of the vice principal of a primary school in Pretoria taking his daughter for emergency medical care to the ZAR hospital at 03:30 Thursday morning being obliterated (both killed on impact) by a high speed ..read more

Hi everyone, I have got a piece of land I am going to be building in Tofo Beach, Moz and am in the market for a 4x4 that I can take up there when I go. I will be between Cape Town and Tofo while building so looking for a vehicle which is easily serviced etc by local mechanics which has lead me to Toyotas. As it will be a vehicle that spends a lot of time at the beach, I am looking for an older 4x4 and have just come across a 2000 Prado 3L diesel which would suit my needs. All of the above just to ask here if I should have any concerns on the quality of diesel generally in Moz. I have heard th ..read more

I have a wine barrel that is bare wood at the moment. I put a removal top on it to use it as a table. Problem is, the wood is bare, untreated and seems to be drying out. It stands in my braai room that gets quite hot from the sun. What is the best way to preserve the wood? Do I oil it or stain it? I would love to hear your ideas ..read more

We have an old copper core geyser that has now finally packed up (after 66 years!). I'm not kidding, the year stamped on it is 1958, and the volume is still measured in gallons. Anyway, this geyser only serves the kitchen and the guest bathroom. The bathroom has a shower and a bath. I think we have used the bath twice. Guests usually use the shower when they sleep over, which isn't very often. Now we want to replace the geyser. First prize would have been a new geyser, but the insurance rejected the claim and it would cost upwards of R6 000 which is a bit costly. So we were thinking of gett ..read more

Its time to get a 4x4 again as the kids have there own cars now and it's only me and the wife, I like the swb 3.2 Did series, I have my eye on this 2003 model and is going tomorrow to have a look at it, I read most of the posts in the sticky as what problems have the owners experienced. It looks like it's due for a set of tyres but anything specific I must focus on, feedback from the dealer: It's doesnt have problemsStart And Drive Wherever it will be my 1st Diesel and I have no background in diesels ..read more

My +- 2002 stainless steel Engel 40 liter fridge started to loose capacity so I took it to a home based repairer in Monte Vista who replaced the compressor and power supply for very reasonable price and she lives again. Set to cycle much more infrequently as the Engel compressor always did. Runs about 1,2 amps higher than the Engel (same as my 65 liter N.Lunar) but very happy with the job. The guy only works evenings so it took about 6 months to get it back but it's only a spare so didn't push the guy. On another note, when he dropped off the Engel he noticed my N.Lunar was stored and not ru ..read more
