I bought a '92 F150 4x4 that used to belong to the forest service - it is light green, so I call it "Green Bean" - license plates yet to come. It has a T18 in it. I am pretty happy with it but would like an overdrive for more mpg while driving to my fun places. I will use the truck for towing a 16' trailer on paved, dirt, muddy, snowy roads. Locally there is a Spicer 5831 for sale, and also an np 520 (5 speed, no over drive) for sale. I have a 4.9l I6 in my truck. What would it take to...

Hi guys. Have a guy in my area offering me a good deal on a set of 5 ton Marmon Herringtons. What is parts availability like? Are they good axles? I can't find much info except on the smaller axles, nothing on the 5 tons.
I was looking into 5 ton Rockwells until now, and had actually settled on them, until I randomly came across these axles. They're far closer to me than any other Rockwells and about half the price of the cheaper ones I could find, less still than the others. I could drive...

Hi everybody! New here and as stated, have a question about the 5 tons. I've visited the thread so I know it exists, but I don't know how to post on it.
My build is a little unusual... Gonna axle swap my '76 F700. Not gonna do anything too crazy with it, I know it's a little too big for that, but for real, the axle swap is something I've put a lot of thought into and Imit makes sense. I'll fill you guys in on details if you're interested. Anyways, keep doing your thing guys ..read more

Does anyone have experience with a Gleason differential? Looks like a very good design from a functionality standpoint I am just concerned about strength. I see they were put in from the factory though in Hummer, Audi, Ford, and Camaro. That is a pretty solid endorsement.
I am looking at one on CL, not sure if it is an older Gleason or a newer Torsen.
FWIW I have 32" tires now and do not intend to go over 33s at least not with this axle ..read more

Looking at future plans coming up, I have 6 axles to clean down to bare metal for trusses/brackets, ect within the next 8-9 months. All axles are from the late 70's or early 80's and have plenty of rust and road grime. I've had a few back surgeries and I'm getting too old for the 3hr hunchback grinder wheel/brush attachment method, so I'm looking for other options to clean up axles and get them all down to bare metal.
I've got a 29 gallon HF air compressor and a Thermal Dynamics plasma...
