I agree with everything @PaulF said. What you can do now depends or whether you can expect 50°F or warmer for another month once the cold snap is past, or temps are just going to continue to go down. (1) If just a cold snap, you might be able to put floating cover and vented poly double layer over a low tunnel or hoops or other supporting structure to protect the peppers to push on past. (2) If like me you are expecting a mid-30’s over night, then maybe another week of warmer weather (70’s/50’s even 78°F high on Fri) … then likely full on frost and wintry weather, you can agonize WITH ME ab ..read more

It would help to know your location. It sounds like the growing season for your garden is about over. Peppers are notorious warm season plants. If by now there has not been a crop, what you see is a last gasp growth. Daytime temps of 70 to 90 is best with nighttime temps at least 60ish or peppers will just show no growth. Your area and the length of your growing season is a big factor for growing peppers successfully. In my area long season, 75 days and more peppers will not have enough time for a good harvest. What comes on about now on a 75 to 90 days to ripe will be killed by cold temperat ..read more

So all summer long my peppers produce a grand total of 4... my own fault I think, I had them too crowded amongst tomatoes plants, anyways, I cut down the tomatoes and left the peppers like 2 weeks ago and now suddenly I have 5 incoming peppers all at once. Problem is, every night it is around 45°F or lower. So, my question is, how do I nurse these to produce the fruits fully before winter sets its claws in? It sounds like it may have been something to do with the environmental changes, I.e. temperature and light. The peppers should still be good to eat even if they are dull. Peppers need high light and temperatures 70-80 in the day time and 50-60 at night. If your day temperature is over 65 it is better to have the peppers outside and just bring them in at night. When temperatures get lower, the plants are likely to stop production and go dormant. Statistics: Posted by imafan26 — Sun Oct 22, 2023 6:27 pm ..read more

I have best luck using 15-15-15 fertilizer once a week about 1 tablespoon per plant on my peppers and calcium every other week for BER = blossom end rot. My plants are outside and they grow best if I water them every day. Humidity inside your house might be too dry for your plants. What grow light are you using? 30 years ago I grew peppers in 5 gallon buckets. I bought plants inside the house at night when it was cold. I moved plants outside every morning to get real sunlight and outside air our winter temperatures are often 40s and 50s during the day then 15 to 25 at night. Plants do good as ..read more

Pepper Forum • Which pepper plants are short, need no stakes & peppers all turn red at once?

Look at this commercial grower video. Big fields of ALL ripe red peppers, short plants with no stakes to hold plants up. Plants are loaded with all RED color peppers and NO Green peppers? If I don't stake my peppers plants limbs get heavy and break off. If I don't pick red pepper as they change color green to red they develop rotted places. I would love to have pepper plants that need no stakes to hold them up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSiyh47JD_k Statistics: Posted by Gary350 — Sun Oct 22, 2023 12:20 pm ..read more

Hi and welcome to the forum I applaud your efforts! Now, I can’t make a definitive diagnosis without more info — like 1) were these peppers grown in the buckets 2) more details of your set up including lights and temperatures 3) how often are you watering and exactly in what way — how are you dealing with excess water runoff, etc. 4) specifically how often are you fertilizing (“regularly” and 2 weeks sounds too often for the high number fertilizer to me….) 5) are there any sign of pests? 6) Some photos would be “worth thousand words” …That said, my immediate first suspicion would be not e ..read more

I am a first time Pepper Grower, I have 18 nice mature plants fruiting right now in 5 gallon buckets. I moved them indoors as the weather is cooling down. Using grow lights for the past couple weeks. Peppers are doing nicely. I just noticed that many of the peppers are no longer shiny or have a lustre. They are dull with no sheen. I have been fertilizing regularly with 4-12-14 fertilizer and everything was going great until the gloss went to dull this past week. Any ideas what could be causing this. I am so close to having fruit but am worried about what is going on. HELP!!!!!! Statistics: Pos ..read more

Ugh! Massed egg clusters like that are almost always evil demon spawns. Predators don’t need to lay that many eggs at once, typically. I’d venture to guess moth — maybe fall armyworms? Depends on where you live. If curious for definitive ID, pluck the leaf and put in a jar with vented cover (like cheese cloth or paper towel held down with rubber band, keep out of direct sun or rain, and let them hatch. Included are a couple pics of rows of tiny brown eggs on the jalapeños plant leaves. What are these and are they evil demon spawns or benevolent singular rays of 6 legged light? Statistics: Posted by ÆSIR — Tue Sep 12, 2023 8:43 pm ..read more
