“Oh, No! I’m in Love” is another offering from Rockford Road’s latest album, Epilogue. And in our recent album-encompassing review, I purposely left this very song off my list of highlights; I suppose it didn’t grab me as effectively as the rest. But, with a little more listening time, I have to admit – my opinion started trending upward. Let’s talk about it. If you’re not in the know, Rockford Road exhibits a classic rock sound like few other contemporary “retro” bands. In one song, you might hear The Doors. In another, you may hear moments similar to The Mamas & the Papas. In another, y ..read more

Are you ready for some rootsy acoustic folk, Americana, and any genre where the song is king? Where the plain-speaking singer/songwriter and his band create something organic, immune to overproduction, and without a single artificial ounce of autotune? Then allow me to introduce The Kenn Morr Band; specifically, their latest album (of 12), Still Shining. Featuring 11 solid, folk-ringing tracks, Still Shining is a pure, subtle offering of unrefined refinement. So, what makes this album so darn authentic and more than slightly magical? Let’s hit the highlights. Wait. Who does what? Guitarist and ..read more

Timeseven – the group project led by guitarist, songwriter, and producer William Hayden – returns with “Stay”; a soft, acoustic lullaby performed by a who’s who of talented performers (from the stage, and one in particular behind the mixing board). Is this slice of acoustic, contemporary adult pop a capable expression of the aforementioned talent? Let’s break it down: The quality of sound here is pristine; you can tell it was mixed and mastered by Darrell Thorp, a 10 x Grammy-winning mixing engineer who worked with Paul McCartney, Radiohead, and Beck (ya’ heard of ‘em?). So, he has a SERIOUS p ..read more

Laurel Canyon music community in the late 60s, where she collaborated with members of Crazy Horse and sang with Neil Young. Lucky Overton is a singer-songwriter based in Southern Colorado who is known for his raw and soulful blend of Americana styles. His latest album, College Town, is a delightful blend of country, blues, and folk and “focuses on the struggle of finding love and a place in the world, while making and learning from the regrettable mistakes that come from being young in a college town.” Watch Your Back is the album’s opening track and perfectly embodies the down-on-your-luck sentiment of the blues, with “Can’t you see we’re going nowhere fast?” serving as the song’s refrain. The track is embellishe ..read more

Mister Green is the brand-new collaboration between singer-songwriter, Andrew Lindner, and producer/co-writer, Mark Renk. Their debut album, Stay Tuned, is a delightful celebration of Americana music, fusing together the sounds of country, folk, and rock with some classic, lyrical storytelling. The songwriting demonstrates a strong focus on melody, and the duo engaged an impressive roster of session musicians to polish off the tracks.
