Hi Dot 2 dot I have been on Abemaciclib for almost 6 months with only mild tummy troubles now and then so feeling fortunate so far. Luckily I have not had energy or fatigue problems however I know this is very very common as the oncologist has told me several times that this is a side effect to expect. Evidently like all side effects for Abemaciclib it can settle after a while.  Best wishes  Bookie ..read more

Hello Hanna Beth    Thank you for posting.   It’s good to hear that you have a good quality of life at the moment and it’s understandable that you have questions about whether and when to start aromatase inhibitors.    The aim of treatment for primary breast cancer is to remove all the cancer and reduce the risk of it coming back in the future, hence your oncologist’s recommendation to take an aromatase inhibitor. As with all medications, aromatase inhibitors do have side effects but as @Susanmanchester and @krtea say these do vary from person to person ..read more

Good you're seeing the nurse this week to ask questions. I had my dental check up this week & the dentist explained it to me as there aren't really any affects to teeth/oral health unless you need dental treatment during treatment. It's fine to get crowns or root canal but the risk is if you get a tooth out on treatment that the bone doesn't really want to heal after it. She told me that every infusion lasts for 5 years so if you were to get 2 infusions over a year you'd be at risk of side affects for 10 years. Not sure if that helps but it was certainly more informative than my oncologist ..read more

Hi All, After some initial reservations about posting on any forum I have decided that this one is the most appropriate for me. We all need every support we can get don't we? So I hope it helps others while also helping me. I was diagnosed with 7.5mm. high grade DCIS in 24 May following a routine mammogram. Even after having a follow up mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy I was clinging on to the hope there was nothing wrong. I couldn't feel any lumps and I felt fine so it must be OK right? Not so.  I have never gone through so many emotions. At the initial diagnosis shock was coupled with r ..read more

Hi skyesummer   Thanks for posting. It’s understandable you are concerned and it can be worrying noticing changes in your breast, but it’s good to hear the ultrasound you had in May was fine.   Breast changes can happen for many reasons. They may be part of normal development, hormonal changes as part of your monthly cycle (period) or due to benign conditions (not cancer). Although you are not having periods due to contraception, your breasts will still undergo hormonal changes. You’ll probably find your breasts change quite a bit throughout your life.   It may he ..read more

I'm 3 weeks into taking Abemaciclib. My consultant has a policy of starting people on 100mg and then moving up to 150mg if they are doing OK - which I know isn't standard. So I'm still only on 100mg, but I'm generally doing well. I haven't had any diarrhoea, just a very mildly upset stomach, but not enough to need to take loperamide (I know I'm lucky). The thing I have really noticed though is that my fitness levels seem to have fallen off a cliff. I did couch to 5 k after chemo and had got up to being able to manage 7k moderately comfortably. Now running feels massively harder, and my times h ..read more

Hi Scubagirl, Yes, it's a bit James Bond isn't it?! ?   Your skin may well go red & your boob will likely feel hot, but most side effects generally kick in after a week or so as its a cumulative thing. I've definitely felt worst 10-16 days after mine finished, and on Saturday had to send family home at 8.30pm so I could go to bed!   ..read more

Yes, I was in Effexor during Tamoxifen and tapered off it afterwards - it seems less risky. I was discharged from oncology years ago on the NHS so have to do my own research.  ..read more

Hi all, Back in May, I had an ultrasound done after going to the go and finding some ‘nodules’. Results came back fine but was not given a definite answer. I was told ibuprofen gel could help ease the pain (it’s not excruciating). I wondered if it had anything to do with my time of the month but I don’t have periods anymore due to contraception. A few months down the line the pain is still the same (not worse) and now I am more aware of what to look out for. I’ve had this thicker area of my right breast (lower inner quadrant of the breast) that I keep comparing to my right since before the ult ..read more
