Quiet board, these days. Can't help but comment on last night's game between Calgary and Alberta in Edmonton. Dinos lost by 1 in OT, after losing 108-80 on Friday. What made the 1 point loss more significant is that: 1) Dinos only had 8 players dressed due to injuries; 2) Two of those players were flown up for the game. Neither were in Edmonton for the Friday game. Neither had seen any CW court time yet this year; 3) Almost all of the injured players were starters or 6th men; 4) All the 8 who played were 3rd yrs or less We talk about how coaches put in the B Team when up by a lot late in the ..read more

Not sure I will jump on the Gaels bandwagon just yet. The combined record of their 8 opponents is 12-48 and not one of them has a winning record let alone at .500. The GGs record of 7-1 is more impressive - their opponents have a combined record of 32-35 and 5 of them are at .500 or above. Then again, the 1 GG loss was to McGill who happen to be 1-6. As for who will win the OUA East - I guess it doesn't really matter. I have been asleep at the switch only now realizing that the OUA have went back to the three division scenario (why????) with 12 teams making the playoffs ranked, I guess, by th ..read more

I never thought I would ever be saying it but Queen's appears to be the favourite to win the OUA East. Last year they upset Carleton and Ottawa on the road to secure their first ever Final 8 berth. And this season they look even stronger. The Gaels are 7-0 and have been winning most of their games very handily. Queen's has six 4th and 5th year seniors including the Syllas brothers who are the engine that drives this team. So the Gaels are loaded with veteran leadership and the experience of a deep playoff run. Carleton OTOH has lost a lot of leadership and experience from last year including P ..read more

U VIC will also be very strong in Canada West. UBC is already 7 and 0 with a win over UNLV in the summer and pre-season wins over Regina, Calgary and Brock. They also just beat SFU in the Buchanon Cup in front of about 2,500 fans at UBC. Statistics: Posted by ebe — Wed Nov 02, 2022 3:35 am ..read more

Probably still way too early but it's only a prediction, right? I'll stick with my AUS final - Dal vs St. Mary's. Generally can count on some upsets in the AUS tournament. For the Q, I'll go with McGill vs Laval but this conference is almost impossible to predict. McGill has a nice win over Ottawa and played well at last year's nationals. I'm just guessing that Laval are going to return to a more historical position and will be very competitive this year. I was going to say Lakehead vs TMU for the final but my hand started to shake typing TMU. So I'll stick with Carleton getting to the fina ..read more

Yikes, let's just forget about that semi-final against the U.S. The one were the Americans jumped out to a 27-7 first quarter lead and ended with a 83-43 smackdown for our neighbours to the south. One bright spot was the 18 year old 6'7" Phillipina Kyei with 4 pts, 5 rebs 3 of 'em on the O glass, 3 blocks in 13:20. So the Opals from down under are up next, winner taking the Bronze Medal. Something we haven't done since 1986. Who cares about the home crowd we're winning this one. Stay tuned. Well it turns out the Aussies and their home crowd were too much to overcome as Canada gets walloped a ..read more

The quarter final games have come and gone with Australia playing China in one semi and Canada playing the USA in the other. I predict the final medal order will be Gold - USA, Silver - Australia and Bronze - Canada. Of course, when you get off the paper and onto the hardwood anything can happen. Let's hope that the "anything" is in Canada's favour. Canada won their 1/4 final game against Puerto Rico 79-60. Couldn't ask for a better time for Kia Nurse to come alive than in the knockouts. Let's hope she sustains in the semis. Kia 17/4/2/17:57. As has been usual in this tournament Bridget Carle ..read more
