Before the 1st Chinese Grand Prix in half a decade could begin there was drama for Fernando Alonso who damaged the floor of this Aston Martin by taking to much kerb on his lap to the grid. Its the first Sprint Race of 2024 here at the Shanghai Circuit in China and w have a new format, rather than the 'Sprint Saturday' format that saw the cars Qualifying and race the Sprint in one day in 2024 Sprint Qualifying is on a Friday after the only Practice session of the weekend and the Sprint is run on the Saturday morning before Qualifying for the Sunday Grand Prix. Practice Cars were straight out on track for the only Practice session of the Sprint Weekend, ahead of Sprint Qualifying later in the Afternoon. Zhou made his first laps of his home track to the thunderous applause of a huge Chinese crowd.  The 2 Alpine cars were the only ones out on the Soft tyres to begin with while all other cars chose the Hard or Medium rubber for their initial laps, Verstappen went top on his Mediums to set the pace early over Gasly in 2nd. I LOVE THIS RACE TRACK. Suzuka is a law onto it's self and has become a hub of brilliant 2 & 4 wheel racing. There have been so many controversial, monumental and truly saddening moments here and its hard to come here without thinking of Jules Bianchi and his  tragic accident that lead to his passing. Before the race began Stake F1 Team announced Zhou would be starting from the pitlane after he damaged his front and rear wing in qualifying, requiring them to be replaced with other components that were not the same and Hamilton was questioning his choice to start on the Soft tyres in such hot weather.  As the lights went out Verstappen got a good start keeping 1st out of turn 1. The news off the track before Qualifying was still the withdrawal of Logan Sargeant by William so that Albon could take his Chassis after a big crash in Practice 1 damaged his and because of time and Financial constraints Williams did not bring a 3rd Chassis to the race.
