For years, Growth Energy has warned that special interests are seeking to use political attacks to derail sound science. And once again, these same parties are trying to pressure policymakers to set the best science aside when it comes to Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). If their efforts succeed, it will effectively end any serious hope of decarbonizing air travel and directly contradict President Biden’s promise that “farmers are going to provide 95 percent of all the sustainable airline fuel.” The latest round of misinformation about SAF has taken the form of a letter from several national g ..read more

Growth Energy CEO Responds to New Yorker Article Dismissing Ethanol’s Role in SAF

On Dec. 9, 2023, The New Yorker ran an article about Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) but downplayed the environmental benefits of ethanol. Growth Energy CEO Emily Skor submitted the following letter to the editor in response: Elizabeth Kolbert’s recent article on sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) cherry-picks information to retell a long-debunked narrative that misrepresents the state of the research on crop-based biofuels. No less than the Argonne National Laboratory and U.S. Department of Agriculture have concluded that corn ethanol reduces greenhouse gas emissions. With the implementation of ..read more

On Nov. 30, 2023, the New York Times ran an article about the role bioethanol made from corn will play in building a market for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Growth Energy CEO Emily Skor submitted the following letter to the editor in response:   A November 30 article on Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) suggested that crop-based inputs, like ethanol, could use up too much water for irrigation. The science shows otherwise. The water required to produce ethanol fell almost 50 percent since the early 2000s. Today, production only requires 2.7 gallons of water per gallon of ethano ..read more

AAA projects that more than 49 million Americans will hit the road and drive more than 50 miles from their homes for Thanksgiving this week. That’s a lot of miles traveled, and a lot of stops at the gas station to fuel up before those trips.  Drivers lucky enough to live in one of the 31 states that sell UNL88 (E15) should remember to fill up with this higher biofuel fuel blend that helps lower costs while traveling over the holiday (and also helps lower carbon emissions). When they do choose UNL88 (E15), they’ll certainly be in good company—Growth Energy recently calculated that, to date ..read more
