Hi! I got this little white fir (apps say it's common juniper, etc.). But it looks pretty sad. If it's not dead, maybe there is something I can do to improve the little tree/shrub? Thank you ..read more

It seems that the United Nations has declared Neem (Azadirachta indica) as "The Tree of the 21st Century". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neem This tree is a native of Southern Pakistan, and recently has also been declared as the official tree of our Sindh province. It has been known for centuries as "nature's pharmacy". Extract of this tree is mainly used as insecticide, as well as a fungicide. It also repels termites wherever it is... Black Walnut Tree has damages

Normally, I would not be real concerned, but this black walnut is between my house and my kids' house, and if it falls, could take out either house. This morning, I noticed that there are what looks like woodpecker holes at about knee or hip high around my large black walnut tree. The holes are seeping lots of sap and the bugs are enjoying it, so it is already coming out of dormancy for spring. They are not totally around the tree, but more than halfway around the tree. Personally, I... Black Walnut Tree has damages ..read more

Red Rose breed?

Hi all, I need help identifying this red rose. I bought this potted rose at a farmer's market where the seller sold it (and tagged it) as a Mr Lincoln. In my previous experience, Mr Lincoln's are a deep-red and don't really open enough to reveal a face. This (if you can tell by the pucture) is more of a purple-red which became obvious as it opened. Is this actually a Mr Lincoln or another breed? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated ..read more

The 1,000 Year Old Rose Of Hildesheim

While I was reading about whether it's better to grow roses on their own roots, vs. grafted, I ran across this story. https://germanculture.com.ua/travel-to-germany/thousand-year-rose-of-hildesheim/ Apparently, the cathedral was built at the site of the rose, so the rose bush is older than the original cathedral. It's also durable, and grew back from its roots after the cathedral was destroyed in WWII. The cathedral was rebuilt, and the rose is still there. The article has... Hello, First time poster and first time with this type of landscaping. I had my yard redone with a big overhaul of landscaping. I live in Florida (9a/9b) area. I validated that the Emerald Thuja should work fine in my area and I have 2 planted as they essentially look like small Christmas trees. But one of them looks really bad to me and I would love thoughts on what I should do. Here are pictures of both. One I think is fine, but has brown/gold near the trunk, where the other just l...
