My mpg drops in winter by nearly 10mpg, back up in summer 50-60 around time 70-080 motorway, best was 91mpg from Wigan to Leamington last summer, steady 58mph. A strange one really, my Almera was on a 54 plate, 99k never changed the pump, in fact I remember when they were Datsun's the water pumps were cast steel and had a weep/drain hole that let you know when they were on there way out, never changed a Datsun/Nissan pump in 20 odd years on Cherry 100A F2, Cherrry GL, Sunny hatch and estate, Stanza, Bluebird, 1st and2nd gen Almeras, also a Volvo 360 and 440. Just had a look while its dry and my cam belt cover is very wobbly, I don't remember it being loose. What I would say is I know on the earlier 1.5dci engine(I've not worked on any later years than about 2013), the cambelt has a tendency to walk off over a period of time, my daughter's 2012 was nearly a third of the way off when done, she was very lucky that the belt was still on.
