Mad-dgalen College
The New Conservative

Magdalen College, the wealthiest constitutional college of the University of Oxford, has come under fire for scrapping a traditional St George’s Day celebration, which falls every year on 23 April and honours the patron Saint of England. The dinner has been replaced by a ‘special’ banquet for Eid – the second consecutive year the college has made such a move, despite the fierce row it sparked in 2023. The request for this change was made by Muslim students in order to celebrate the end of Ramadan, a month of fasting during which they abstain from food and drink between dawn and sunset. The Eid ..read more

How Do Teachers Ever Control Classes?
The New Conservative
by Paul Sutton
14h ago
Given the recent report on record school expulsions, this must be what outsiders wonder most about. It certainly was when I thought about teaching. You’d see youths lurking on buses or outside McDonald’s and think: ‘Christ, imagine being stuck in a classroom with that shower. You couldn’t pay me to!’ It’s not helped by unrealistic impressions from TV dramas like Waterloo Road and documentaries such as Gobshites in the Classroom; oops, I mean Educating Yorkshire/Essex (much as I like both counties). Teachers work closely with perhaps two-hundred plus people, the majorit ..read more

Met Police Appeasement
The New Conservative
by Peter Harris

Since Hamas’ pogrom on 7 October 2023, we have had much confirmation of what we knew already: that the Metropolitan Police operate a two-tier policing policy. Certain types of protestors such as genocidal jihadis are given carte balance to commit public disorder acts whereas others, such as peaceful women holding a candle-lit vigil for the murder victim Sarah Everard, are roughly handled. Yet the Metropolitan police, like all other police forces, take an oath in which they state the following: that they will serve ‘with fairness, integrity, diligence and impartiality, upholding fundamental hum ..read more

Israel’s Collateral Damage
The New Conservative
by Joe Baron

According to the usual pearl-clutching commentariat and our cowardly elites, Israel is not doing enough to avoid civilian casualties in Gaza. Apparently over 30,000 civilians are dead, the majority of whom are women and children. To some, these distressing figures, fabricated by Hamas and enthusiastically announced by their cheerleaders in the western media, most notably the BBC, are evidence of a genocidal assault being carried out by the Israeli military and, by extension, the Jewish people. The immanent bloodlust of the Jews is well documented, didn’t you know? Hamas’s actual genocidal atta ..read more

Villainy: The Only Role Left for White Men
The New Conservative
by Frankhaviland
4d ago
The campaign to airbrush white males from society (customarily euphemised as ‘diversity’), is almost complete. White men are now the most hated group in their own land. Their very existence traumatises ethnic colleagues, and worst of all they’re too obtuse to understand that ‘not being racist isn’t enough’. As the last bastion of institutions succumbs to the allure of the DEI inspectorate, the ‘patriarchy’ is now routinely being excluded from educational opportunities, employment offers, and even historic depiction – thereby rendering him persona non grata in Britain’s past, pre ..read more

Smacking Back in the Dock
The New Conservative
by Frankhaviland

The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) unveiled a report this month, once more calling for the criminalisation of smacking in England and Northern Ireland: Scotland and Wales have paved the way for the UK to become a more equal society by removing the reasonable chastisement defence from their legislation. Political leaders in England and Northern Ireland now have an opportunity to do the same and to tangibly demonstrate their commitment to championing children’s rights, improve outcomes for children and protect them from harm. As the law currently stands in England, parents ..read more

I See No Ships
The New Conservative
by Roger Watson

Our right Royal Navy has been the subject of ridicule on these pages before and they’re here again. Royal Navy ships remain tied to the quay in Portsmouth for lack of fuel, our latest and greatest aircraft carrier was towed to the scrapyard and they have long celebrated their members (no pun intended) who are women with penises that seem to fancy a life on the ocean waves (once they get some fuel). You would think that the senior service would be focusing on how to become fighting fit, repel boarders, and set sail to right wrongs wherever wrongs are being committed on the high seas. You’d thin ..read more

Who Not to Vote For?
The New Conservative
by Roger Watson
1w ago
To vote or not to vote? That is the question. Choosing who to vote for has never been a problem for me. When I was a long-haired student and member of the Labour Party I duly voted Labour and continued doing so for many years, until I saw the light. That particular light was Margaret Thatcher. I started out hating her, like all idealistic lefties were supposed to do, and ended up loving her. The change was brought about by marriage, kids and a mortgage; otherwise known as reality. I was a staff nurse in the NHS where I started in 1987 and, by 1989 with a combination of pay rises and clini ..read more

How Did You Celebrate Eid?
The New Conservative
by Roger Watson
1w ago
We are through Ramadan and Eid Mubarak has been called which means that Muslims can now get back to eating during the day instead of eating all night. ‘Oh’, I hear you say, you thought that they fasted? Well, no, not exactly. If you missed the fact that Ramadan has been upon us then you must have found the secret to happiness: complete unawareness of both the mainstream and social media. It was hard not to know that Ramadan was taking place this year as we really had it shoved in our face at every possible opportunity. We had Ramadan themed messages at King’s Cross Station, Ramadan lights in C ..read more

Scottish National Police Timewasters
The New Conservative
by Effie Deans

I have very limited experience with the Scottish police, which is as it should be in a free society. They are invariably pleasant, polite and helpful. The police don’t stop you for no reason. They don’t come round your house or place of work without cause. If you are a law-abiding citizen, you have no reason to fear the police at all. This is what makes Scotland different from most countries. The police do important work and I wish they were allowed to just get on with it. They have to conclude their investigation into SNP finances. The have to investigate serious crimes like fraud, theft and ..read more
