User adjustable bubble level

Some number of decades ago, I bought this Sand's Craft PL-324 24" level. Couldn't have been expensive because I certainly didn't have any money then. But it had a feature that I'm not finding in today's levels - a user adjustable bubble. Have found (and disappointingly purchased) many levels with fixed bubbles and screwed in plastic rings around them, but not one that actually allows you to rotate the bubble and set it "true". Yes, I've found the same level on Ebay for $40... Read more ..read more

Hikoki Japan Battery Charger question

Hello, My Hikoki Cordless Impact drill came from Japan. Like a dummy, I was not thinking about the power differences and purchased the kit which comes with two batteeries , charger and case. Anyway, I know I can go to lowes and get the Metabo HPT charger. The Japan Batteries are identical worldwide. HOWEVER, before I go get a new charger, is there some kind of small device I can plug the charger into that will convert the voltage to US. I know there are expensive power converters for larger... Generac Generator Not Making Power

Bought a Generac XG8000 yesterday. Had sat for 2-3 years without being run and the carb was all gummed up. I cleaned all that, got it to fire and run, but it’s not putting out any real voltage. According to my meter it’s only putting out 24 volts. I plugged my Ridgid vacuum into it and it was barely sucking. When I manually raise the throttle, the voltage comes up. I am still running the same “old” gas that was in the tank simply because I didn’t have time to get new gas. Can that be the... Read more ..read more

Transmission/ tear down tables

Looking for a transmission / tear down table for tearing down various small machine gear boxes, etc but primarily for use with suspension components. Will most likely mount a vise or two to it. I know Eastwood makes one, as done Snapon and a bunch of others. Ideally looking for something pretty heavily built but that I can still move around the shop. I have plenty of other benches, so this is just for work with fluids etc ..read more

My review on the 'Texas Blaster'.

For a couple of years I've been using my 90lb HF blaster. It barely worked out of the box. Then I made some mods and it worked much better but really, it's only good for blasting parts. Rearend housings, suspension pieces, brackets, etc. It'd blast for a little while then it'd clog. Got to be a total PITA to unclog it every time but it still worked better than stock! Here's my thread on the mods...……. https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=207210 I needed to blast... Read more ..read more

Westinghouse 2YC Compressor Rebuild

Been reading alot here about compressors and today I picked up a Westinghouse Air Brake Co. Type Y air compressor, Model 2YC, Seriel #127047. I currently have a Craftsman 26 gal. compressor which I last year replaced the tank. However I'm using it more and more in my basement shop and when I do any grinding, sand blasting it barely keeps up. I've gone through several compressors in the last decade or so and it was time to move on up to the big boys. I didn't want to purchase a new or like... Read more ..read more

Hit a rock on my zero-turn, vibrations now

I have a Cub Cadet ZT150 with 20 hours on it that I got new last year. Last week I hit a rock and the feel of the mower instantly changed. I assumed I bent a blade and parked it. Today I got around to looking at it. Right away I replaced the blades with another known-good set. I'd swapped new ones on at the end of last season but the ones I took off were pretty much perfect. Anyway, with the known-good blades installed I'm still getting vibration. If you borrowed this mower you might not... Read more ..read more

Off Road Dump Trailer

Having a few properties to maintain has its challenges, but also requires the purchase of tools and equipment. So I'm looking for a good quality dump trailer, one that won't tear up the grass, hold up to a yard of material. Hydraulic dump would be nice, fully dumps out, using a 10 cu ft one now and have to shovel 1/2 of our out. I like the ones that use the tractor hydraulics, but then you have to hook and unhook so a 12 volt system would be better. Ideally would like to set up with a... Read more ..read more
