Recently had a new Will drawn up with solicitor. Since then my daughters partner has left her, I had named him in the Will to receive all my tools, I now want to amend this and leave them to my daughter, i don’t really want to go back to the solicitor to amend this and have another fee to pay, I understand I can make a codicil to amend this legally. Any help on writing this would be appreciated ..read more

My husband is a non tax payer as his pension is under the £12500 tax threshold. He is 62 yrs old so has not qualified for his State Pension.
My husband withdrew his full tax free 25% from a further personal pension plan he has in 2023. He plans to take a further lump sum in this tax year - Approx £7k.
We understand that the pension provider automatically takes 40% tax and my husband can contact HMRC to request a 20% tax refund or wait until the following tax year to be automatically reimbursed. Having just read an article on this site called How the starting rate for s ..read more

If I sell all my assets, turning it into liquid cash, and then spend it and gift to my friends and family to spend. And I mean SPEND, not invest into tangible assets. Like use it to live, see the World, savour Michelin star restaurants, experience VIP Taylor Swift concerts, enjoy relaxing massages and Spa holidays, play on the elite golf courses.
I will be left with no money. If I need care, the LA would deem me to have deprecated my assets and I won't be eligible for care
But how will they make me or my estate pay? Like I say, moneys been spent, not invested ..read more

My mother made a Will with a solicitor in 2010/2011. She has a receipt from the solicitor. She is now 95 years old and in hospital following a recent fall. She has age-consistent mild cognitive impairment but not vascular dementia or Alzheimer's.
Before her fall, she wrote to her solicitor to see a copy of her Will. The solicitor has not responded. I have today written to the solicitor asking for him/her to provide the copy or at least to confirm that the copy is held safety in their office. It may be considered problematic that I write this letter, but my mother is very ill.

As one enters the twilight of one's life, I often ponder. What do we mean by wealth. How do you know you have died "rich"
Is it the money in the bank? Number of homes you own? Number of descendants you have created? Number of people who are there to care and look after you in your old age? Number of people you have at your bedside when you pass? Number of people mourning you at your funeral? Number of children and grandchildren whom I helped build self sufficient lives...?
What is it all about ..read more

Whats size of estate (property, stock, cash, chattel) is considered large, and would be worth engaging with a wealth management advisor?
Also how do they charge. Is it a fixed cost per advised or is it calculated as percentage of the estate value they are being asked to manage?
