Anyone know who did the carvings in Bryn Bach Park? These are just some of them, there’s a lovely owl and fox bench as well but I didn’t manage to get a photo (yet)

The other week a customer asked if I knew anyone who does chainsaw carving....I'd been thinking about giving it a go anyway so did a few mushrooms as practise and today I did a tawny owl for them. I'm going back in a couple of days to do the finer details and some painting on it.
This being the first time doing a carving for a customer i'm at a loss as to what to charge? It is about 50cm tall, sat on top of a carved 'tree' about 1m tall.... and the customer really liked it so far...what would the 'going rate' be for something like that ..read more

My trusty cheap Macallister 115mm has finally died today and been looking immediately for another Grinder, as i use them a lot.
My question is what is better to use when sanding carvings, my last one was a push switch, but some people say paddle would be better but im unsure, as i was happy with the toggle switch for sanding, I do have a bigger grinder which i use for other things like cutting metal, which is more suited to a paddle switch imo.
Any recommendations? i want it corded, and under £80 ideally, 115mm or 125mm? i usually use 115mm but if 125mm is better i don ..read more

Hey peeps, hope everyone is doing well and carving is going well, been a while since ive been on here.
A long shot this but ill try, I have a Cramer 40v chainsaw, has worked well for a cheap saw, so ended up getting another one as it worked out in a deal.
Anyway im thinking of putting a dime tip bar on the new one, unfortunately i have no idea where to start on where to get a sprocket to fit this saw? Was wondering if anyone has any experienced with this saw, or a battery chainsaw in general. I think they are compatible with Greenworks saws to.
Any help would be greatly ap ..read more

I'll be dismantling a dead standing elm in the next month. The customer has asked me about the possibility of carving the stem, in situ. Who's the carver on here from the Soutport area?. Would Wirral be your patch? Or anyone else interested?
It could be a waste of time, the tree is in a flat's communal garden and not everyone has agreed to the idea yet. If anyone wants to give me their number, I'll pass it on. Or I can give you the property managers number. Thanks ..read more

Just a note but I wasn't sure which to reply to - I was running up the hills today, about an hour up and down, and in that time a local wood carver had pretty much turned a log into a caved eagle - and was having time to chat to the locals too - anyway I was impressed how quick and with experience it was made ..read more

I have an Stihl 023 chainsaw that I’d like to fit a carving bar too.
I use it for fencing work and would like to try a carving bar for morticing posts.
Could someone point me in the direction of a good bar and chain?
currently running a 16” regular bar ..read more
