My son requested that we take down the large pictures we had of deceased family members. He said they make him uncomfortable when he looks at them. I did take them down for now. As long as he is with us, I will keep them off the walls. I want him to feel comfortable in his home ..read more

Hi, glad you found the forum, it is very comforting to know you are not alone. I have less energy and motivation to deal with my 29 year old son with SZ as I age. After all, it has been over a decade and he never gets any better. He is currently not taking his meds since April 2024 and getting more and more difficult to deal with. I am just taking it day by day and trying to remember that I don t have that much control. I am trying to take a small step back from him, it is all too much for me to handle well right now ..read more

One of my favorite moments ever was when we, (me, Mike and his brother) were watching a soccer game on tv. Mike loved soccer and his brother would come over to watch with us every on Saturdays and every time the national team played. They made an announcement that caused all 3 of us to bust out laughing at the same time- it was bliss ..read more

One morning we woke up and discovered that our son had removed all of the pictures of himself that we had on the walls of our house. I was relieved to find them tucked away in a closet. He didn’t let us take his picture for years. We didn’t ask him about it and we didn’t put the pictures back up until he lived in his own home ..read more

Just joined and your post moved me to tears. My son who is 32 has schizophrenia - diagnosed at 18 - and lately I feel so drained. I used to be so hopeful - not sure about what - perhaps that things would get better for him. But as I’m aging & making plans for his and my future I’m feeling overwhelmed. I certainly will come here often and I’m so grateful to have found this forum. Thanks ..read more

Had another win this week, so I wanted to share =) The other day, my husband was in the living room with my two sons. He was attempting to turn on the tv to find something to watch with them (that’s a win in itself, as my son with schizophrenia was not watching tv at all for a long time) and as he was attempting to turn on the tv with the remote, the tv would blink but then turn off. He tried this a few times before realizing that my son had a second remote, and was using it to turn off the tv every time my husband turned it on. When he got caught in the act, he laughed and then smirked at my ..read more
