Cassette multitrack collection/project sale - 70+ units - tascam, fostex, yamaha

Here's a weird scenario - I've been asked to help disperse a collection of cassette multitracks, and it's save to assume that all need some love and servicing - and sadly (happily?) I have no interest or time for 4track cassette recording/recorder escapades. This collection is large (70+?) and includes many of the models produced by tascam, yamaha, and fostex - from the lowly porta 02 to tascam 688's... models from the early 80's to late 90's. Some units are very nice w/ original... Read more ..read more

Stereo EQ pricing advice

I have a stereo EQ that I want to let go of but I’m really not sure what I should should be asking for it. It’s an Audinc Velvet Boost HFB4. I’ve only seen it brought up by maybe 10 people at most over 5 years of searching the web for more details about it. Most of the search results take me to my repair threads on here. It’s 1U, solid state, with 2 bands per channel that can also be routed as 4 independent bands. A buddy of mine gave it to me years ago. Thoughts ..read more

Mystery Spring Tank Driver PCB
GroupDIY Audio Forum

Hi, I bought two accutronics spring tanks and their driver PCBs about a month ago from a seller claiming them to be from a Yamaha organ. I'm hoping I can turn them into a stereo spring reverb unit. Unfortunately, there isn't a schematic online to figure out what goes to what. The driver circuit seems to be based on a transistor/capacitor design with one side of the circuit board's 5 terminals going to the positive/negative spring tank input, positive/negative spring tank output and a... Central Semi 2N3819 back in spec?
GroupDIY Audio Forum
by OneRoomStudio
11h ago
I've heard lots of stories about various 2N3819's bought over the years having Idss measurements of 12-20mA, which make them difficult/impossible to bias up correctly in a U87 circuit. Technically, those are "in spec" since the data sheet specifies 2-20mA for Idss, but vintage 2N3819's were usually in the 2-4mA range. All of the Central Semi ones I've bought from Mouser recently have been back within the "vintage" specs though. I just measured 25 of them, and they were all between 2.2 and... Read more ..read more

Sealing an electrolytic capacitor in Epoxy
GroupDIY Audio Forum

I had an old 4-in-1 electrolytic capacitor in a metal can to replace, and as it was more practical to keep the same kind of package to wire all the components of the device, I decided to open the can and put 4 newer capacitors inside, then sealed them in epoxy. I was wondering if sealing them in epoxy might have any disadvantages or problems I hadn't thought of ..read more

Hello, I want to ask you for help to solve this headache. I have this design, which simulated in Proteus works correctly. But in practice it doesn't work. The jfets are j112 and work as switches and the 741 works as a comparator. Any idea what could be causing the malfunction? Thank you ..read more

Update : The mods for turning a 552 into a summingbuscompressor are described in this updated first post : Scroll down for the "htdiy" (how to do it yourself) ---------------------------------------------------------------- Hi there, I've got quite a lot of emails recently with questions how to wire the SSL SL552 IMO module, so I've decided to start a new thread for this. First, let's tell what a 552 IMO actually is ! IMO stands for Independant Main Output. Basically, it's this : stereo... Read more ..read more
