Architect and Friends on Tour

A great read not only for architects! After many trips to the West Coast, when we think of architects from the Mid-Century Modern era who all built in California, many names come to mind such as John Lautner, Richard Neutra, Rudolph Schindler, Albert Frey, William Kreisel, Pierre Koenig or Craig Ellwood and these are just a few of all the outstanding architects who not only shaped California architecture in the middle of the last century but continue to inspire architects in many ways until today. But Gregory Ain? Even after many lectures and tours during Modernism Week in Palm Springs or ar ..read more

Architecture and urban planning in Munich: The Olympic City!
Architect and Friends on Tour
by Michael
9M ago
Like me, some of you will remember the first time you went to the Olympic Park in Munich to watch a Bayern Munich soccer match in the stadium or to go up the Olympic Tower to enjoy the view of Munich. In my case it happened in the early 1980s and at that time I didn’t know anything about the project “Olympia” from 1972. The upcoming exhibition “The Olympic City of Munich”, which will open its doors on July 7, 2022 at the Architekturmuseum der TUM, invites you to explore the urban planning, the architectural background and much more about the project that fundamentally changed the cityscape of ..read more

Architect and Friends is very proud to have been chosen to plan their first exhibition: “Un saluto da Grado – Gruss aus Grado“ On the occasion of the 130th anniversary “130 anni Turismo a Grado“ we will look back at the early years of Grado and try to bring them to life through countless postcards from that time. For this purpose we have catalogued over 700 original postcards and selected the best ones for the upcoming exhibition. Starting from the arrival on the island, the city life, the beach life and the excursions – our goal is to trace the “vacation life” of that time, which even then ..read more

Do you know Marcello D’Olivo?
Architect and Friends on Tour

When you think of famous Italian architects then certainly first of Gio Ponti, Carlo Sacra, Renzo Piano or Gino Valle. A rather unknown, but not less creative architect from Friuli Venezia Giulia who has realized projects all over the world is Marcello D’Olivo. On the occasion of the centenary of his birth, the Civici Musei di Udine dedicates to him a great exhibition in which it combines his architecture as well as art and shows what extraordinary projects D’Olivo has planned and realized over the years. Architecture today must return to the place it has always been entitled to: to exercise ..read more

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A FANTASTIC 2021 from Architect and Friends!
Architect and Friends on Tour

After a year that nobody would have expected, we are still positive about 2020! The Modermism Week in Palm Springs in February, a few months in Austria last spring, a relatively relaxed summer in Italy, great projects completed and fantastic new ones started – it wasn’t bad despite everything! We hope that in 2021 many interesting meetings will be possible again, for example at the Venice Biennale in May, at the TUM Museum in Munich or the AzW Architekturzentrum Vienna (not to forget the Piran Days of Architecture in November). Nevertheless, 2020 was a good opportunity to reflect on whether we ..read more

Land for us all! Really?
Architect and Friends on Tour

In view of the fact that Austria is one of the largest “wasters” of land in the world, the question arises whether a trend reversal is still possible due to years of exploitation. From fake second homes in the Alps to abandoned, unused industrial areas in the eastern part of Austria to various other “ruins”, everything can be found even in a small country like Austria!  As long as a new construction next to the existing building is cheaper, there will never be a subsequent use or conversion of the existing (but there would be many excellent examples worldwide!). As long as polit ..read more

SAVE THE DATE: Piran Days of Architecture 2021
Architect and Friends on Tour

After a forced break in 2020, Piran Days of Architecture are finally back! The architecture conference will take place on Saturday, November 27th in the  Auditorium in Portorož and there are already many interesting architects confirmed. This years’ topic: What is measurable in architecture? Measurability has always been inextricably linked to architecture. As a set of dimensions, modules, grids, and design principles which, in a narrower sense, define architectural planning. Or in a broader sense, as the increasingly extensive and complex world of requireme ..read more

The 35th Annual AIA Austin Homes Tour will be held October 15-18, 2021.  When we found the AIA Homes Tour last year we were very impressed by the quality and workmanship of the homes we’ve visited virtually! Also this year there will be an online experience for those who still have no possibility to travel. We’re very curious which homes will be featured this year: From AIA Austin: For our 35th year of the AIA Austin Homes Tour, we are creating an incredible online experience for a global audience to celebrate the talent of Austin’s local architects, with both traditional and contemporary ..read more
