It's time for me to schedule our one-year warranty walk-through. I know of several issues I plan to point out and get fixed. I happened to get an ad in the mail for a home inspection company that does new home inspections. They make a pretty good case for having an independent inspection prior to our home's first year warranty being up. It would be $270. Also, I am considering buying extended warranties for our appliances. Through GE I could cover the micro, both refrigerators, range and... Home Inspection and Warranty Questions ..read more

Sorry. I started a 'frugal car thread' a while back, and got a lot of feedback, and recommendations for Subarus, etc. So, my car is currently a 1998 Volvo XC wagon (AWD) w/197,000 miles on it. It currently needs some pretty good work (heater core, it's burning some oil, has electrical issues in the rain, etc). Probably would cost in the $1000-2000 range to get it fixed. And there are smaller other issues... Another car thread from me ..read more

I bought the deal. I know that 3 friends bought the deal using my link. But I never got emails confirming each purchase like I was supposed to- my settings are set to notify me whenever someone uses my link to buy. I have bought living social deals before and the email notification always worked quickly. Anyone else having this experience? I'm wondering if it's because they are just backlogged with orders- over 1 million sold! I hope so. The only thing better than a half-price gift card is... livingsocial amazon deal question ..read more

Family Coin Saving with a Goal

Just thought I'd share. We normally drop our coins into a jar and use them for whatever. This year, I thought we'd get the kids involved and set a family goal of savings. They decided they wanted to go to the boardwalk and waterparks when we go on vacation in the summer. Normally, we would never do this as it's way too expensive (and chaotic and crazy). But we agreed, figuring we could use it to teach saving toward a goal. I figured that each month, whatever money we don't use out of the... Family Coin Saving with a Goal ..read more
