This is an essay I wrote for a writing competition in 2019, based on my first experience in Vienna. I hold it near and dear to my heart and hope you enjoy it as a little divergence from the articles usually published on this blog. ONE EURO FOR THE MUSIC (photo source pixabay) The landscape shifts indistinctively as the train approaches Vienna. I have been glued to this chair with random thoughts for too long. I am not hungry or tired, nor am I in the mood for a cigarette or my book. I will go do the interview and return in time for a pleasantly uneventful weekend in my charming Bremen suburb I ..read more

A walk through the Prater in January – a gateway into Vienna’s soul

It was an early January morning in Vienna. On the U Bahn, people seemed to rediscover their well-known measured silence and routine gestures with fresh optimism. The beginning of the year had apparently seeped into the morning pattern of the Viennese commuters. To be fair, there was a warm spring wind blowing outside and the grey skies held the promise of sunshine and blue horizons. As U Bahn line 2 made its way through the suburbs from Seestadt into the city, I spotted fields of dark, damp earth ready to burst with new life and trees trembling with impatience to reveal their first buds. I smi ..read more

10 years of breathtaking adventures started on top of the world – Alanya castle After ten years of relationship, a daughter, and four years of blogging, I’d like to look back to where it all began and the adventures that have made this moment possible. It’s been 10 years of breathtaking adventures. Honestly, I have never thought we’d come this far and the blog will become such an integral part of our family. We had just landed in Izmir, exhausted after seven hours’ delay followed by three hours’ wait in the airport for lost luggage. As we started driving away from the city lights onto the moto ..read more

As lockdown measures are lifted and life goes back to the pre-pandemic routine, I look back at the past three months with mixed feelings. In the midst of insecurity, chaos, and overtime home-office hours, we have spent a fair amount of family quality time together and have learned a lot about the things that make us tick. Not surprisingly, a lot of what we did and enjoyed was travel-related. Here’s our account of travel-inspired family quality time activities that brought us the most joy and that we’ll keep on as family traditions! It’s an article I was not at all sure I should write. It’s an ..read more

The #dailydreamtravel – authentic neighborhood walks in Vienna

This article was written half a year ago, in July 2018, as I was launching the new website and it was centered on the question: is my Instagram meaningful? One warm February afternoon last week while exploring a Viennese neighborhood, I re-thought the idea of the #dailydreamtravel. I want our posts to be as informative and useful as possible and thus I will present you under this hashtag several authentic neighborhoods walks in Vienna that you can do by yourself. While I wholeheartedly stand by every word I originally wrote, a later edit and re-evaluation gave birth to this new proj ..read more

It is with anticipation and excitement that I dedicate my Christmas blog post to change and the magic it brings in our lives! For me, the best way to do that is to feature a few of the great friends we have made over the last years. When we started travel blogging two years ago we expected it to be a lonely endeavor. Instead, we have found warmth, friendship, safety, and magic across the world, so our Christmas would not be complete without sharing it with fellow travel bloggers! We have asked some of them to tell us a little bit about what driving home for Christmas means to them an ..read more

One of the many reasons I love travel blogging is the incredible community spirit and friendship that links bloggers around the world. Within only four months of launching the website of Dream, Book, and Travel I have made so many friends, I have learned so much, and I feel so motivated to keep on writing quality content. I know there is always a community behind me to offer support, honest feedback, and constructive suggestions. And sometimes, like on a special Saturday night, while I was cutting deep into my sleeping hours to finish an article, I get gratifying messages full of lo ..read more
