Came home on Sunday after a weekend away, during which we left Mrs Eds X1 on the driveway at home.
Monday morning it would not start - flat battery. I fully charged it on my CTEK a month ago so something amiss. Until the weekend it had been in daily use
Put it on the CTEK yesterday for 6 hours and was able to start it and drive it for 90 mins.
However the car is 6.5 years old and on the original battery so its probably on its way out.
Started OK this morning and been on the CTEK most of...

Green card insurance
when travelling abroad you may be may, or may not, be covered by what is usually referred to as a green card. This has become an issue for residents of France because until now all vehicles had to display a small card indicating the vehicle was insured. This is no longer necessary because, similar to the UK, details are kept on a database which is accessible to the police etc. OK, so far perhaps not of interest to those in the UK, but what they have done is clarify...

Haven't used the Giulia too much over the past few weeks, couple of runs into Cornwall before the holiday makers arrived and remain impressed with it and completely satisfied with my change. After the road trip I gave it it's first wash by hand expecting to find chips and dings that you only seem to notice when cleaning, to my surprise noticed very little; both front inner wheelarch liners were a bit loose, one with a screw missing and one just not quite tight. On closer inspection found...

After successfully changing the front discs and pads on my 640d I decided to tackle the rear. Brembo discs, pads and sensor bought from Autodoc and tried to fit this last weekend. Unfortunately the electronic hand brake mechanism proved to be a struggle. There is a manual retraction process shown on various YouTube videos. Sadly most of these cars seem to have lived in warm dry California where the Torx head bolts were easily removed. Despite my car having only covered 40K miles in 6 years...

Does anyone know what type of bulb I need to replace the angel eye bulb on a pre LCI E61. Drivers side has gone and given the faff getting the holder and then the bulb out, I would like to have the replacement ready to put in!
Im not bothered about changing to LED or anything and would like to change the bulb rather than the expensive route of doing the holder.
Thanks ..read more

I was pricing up the service costs for the next 3/4 years and, on the surface, it looks around 40% cheaper to use the pay monthly plan - based my local Sytner dealer, the standalone costs are;
1 x major (£837), 1 minor (£566) plus 2 brake fluid (£220 each) and probably a vehicle check at some point £164: £2007
Pay Monthly: £1200
Are there any gotchas I should be aware of (apart from if I sell the car early ..read more

We've been on a short but needed trip away over the past five days. This has been planned for a while now, but we weren't overly sure we would be able to make it given recent family issues. Thankfully we were all set and headed off on a road trip last Sunday.
Sunday: Drove from home to Tunbridge Wells via a NT house in Seven Oaks. The traffic was very light, had the G22 in Eco Pro mode (Mrs W prefers that kind of journey!), a very easy journey overall. We had booked parking (cheapest hotel...

Was indeed a good Friday. The rain forecast failed to materialise so a two hour blast round the Lakes, back home and the bike in the garage and my Z3 out for a 90 mile Italian Tune to Penrith and back. If Carlsberg did days .........
