I have been shopping for a banjo for around 2 thousand dollars. I am looking at the gold tone OB 3 twanger, the OB 2 Bowtie, the recording King RK elite models 75 flying eagle, and the 76 hearts and flowers, and the Deering Eagle II. I almost got the deering, being it's built in the usa, and has some new interesting technologies. Any of these Chinese models were they were they built in America would cost several times what they cost now, the gold tones, and the recording kings. It is difficult in most places to play even 1 of these unfortunately. Thank God for the internet, high-res audio, Bow ..read more

A banjo maker friend here in NZ has been making bridges. He posts videos of the bridges he makes on an NZ Facebook page dedicated to banjo repairs. He uses an Asian made Fender FB58 as test instrument. My ear can hear the differences. He recently sent me a 2gm or may not have been the original factory bridge. My question is, where were the bridges sourced from for this era of Gold Star? Japan, the US or somewhere else ..read more

Hello,
I have a unique/odd Mike Ramsey Banjo # 276. It was made in the 90s for Arnie Naiman and he had some specific requests so it’s not actually any of the standard models. in the early 2000’s I purchased it from Arnie.
It was modified by a respected local Toronto luthier specializing in banjos years ago to what you see here in the photos. Brass plate has heat sensitive glue for re,oval and below the frets have been replaced with shims. What maybe you can’t see is that he also modified it to accept a flesh hoop and skin head which it had for many years. Also added Ivoroid knobs.
I used to ..read more

Does anyone remember or ever familiar with a banjo player named, or nicknamed Buzz? It’s not Buzz Busby. He had videos on YouTube and his wife played guitar backup. He was a tall, balding gentleman the best I remember. Seems like I might have heard he passed away a few years ago. I just enjoyed his style and was trying to find the videos. Thanks ..read more

I am a senior with a slight build and little upper body strength. I love my early 1980's Wildwood Paragon. But the weight is a killer; I can barely lift it it from the case to my lap. Playing standing up would be problematic. I would hate to part with this great banjo. Has anyone come across a strap that bears part of the weight on a body part other than a shoulder? Other ideas comments welcome. Peter M. Arlington, VA ..read more
