My Road to Recovery

Hi everyone! I can’t believe that it is already March! We’re 1/6 of the way through 2021 which is crazy! Swim season started at the end of January, and we’ve been having practices Monday through Thursday since then. I haven’t swum competitively since before Covid-19 in 2020. Practice is definitely a workout and can be very hard, but I love the exercise! I can feel that I am getting faster and it’s actually quite exciting that we can practice. In addition, our meets started last week! Our county has allowed swim meets to happen which is pretty cool, but I was not able to go to the last one beca ..read more

End of the Year!
My Road to Recovery

Hi, you guys! Finals start in a week! I am thankful that I don’t have finals in all of my classes (only 3), but I still have a unit test and 2 projects due. It’s definitely stressful considering that I’m a junior, but I think that I would be more stressed if we were in person. Water polo has been canceled until the middle of January due to Covid-19 which is disappointing but understandable. I’ve been trying to keep active, whether it’s a spin class or a short run with my dog. However, it has been hard to stay motivated when I don’t have team practices because I love water polo and absolutely a ..read more

My Road to Recovery

Hi guys! I hope everyone is doing well. We are approaching the end of the first quarter which is crazy! I am almost 1/4 of the way through my senior year which is kind of sad. I’ve been very busy at school lately; school work, college apps, and water polo have been keeping me occupied. On the topic of water polo, we’re more than halfway through our season! I’ve scored twice which is pretty cool if I say so myself. Water polo is a great source of exercise, but I get very frustrated when my knees start to bother me and I have to use KT tape to alleviate some of the pain. I hope that they will st ..read more

ACL Preventative Measures
My Road to Recovery

Hi all! I hope everyone is doing well. School ended on Thursday! It is very relieving, but slightly daunting that I’m about to be a senior in high school. My last year here. I had a support group meeting last month and it went really well! We talked about why females are more susceptible to torn ACLs than males, highlighting the fact that our quads are the strongest muscles in our legs which leads to an unbalance. Additionally, females also have more elastic tendons and ligaments because of the estrogen in our bodies which leads to more tears. We also spoke about how as young female athletes ..read more

Ski Season…
My Road to Recovery

Hi there! I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy. I can’t believe that it is already 2022! The first semester passed so fast. Over Winter Break, my family and I went skiing. I was, at first, a little nervous to be back on the mountain after an almost four-year break (due to my knee surgeries and Covid). However, as soon as I woke up for that first day of skiing, I was really excited. The first run was a little wobbly for me, but as I adjusted to being back on my skis, I felt more comfortable. Towards the end of Day 1, I started to have slight right knee pain which was understandable. I ha ..read more

Senior Night
My Road to Recovery

Sad news: there are only a couple of weeks left in my high school water polo career. Very bittersweet. It’s been an incredible two years and I am very grateful to have been introduced to this sport. My senior night happened a few weeks ago. We played our last home game of the regular season and then we seniors were honored through speeches from our teammates and posters. It was really sweet. I almost cried during my speeches. Senior night helped me realize my strength after my injuries and also my love for this sport. There were times after my second surgery where I longed to play soccer again ..read more

Scars
My Road to Recovery

I chose to receive a hamstring graft for my ACL reconstructions. My doctor thought that it would be better than a patellar tendon graft because my growth plates had not fully closed, and I might keep growing for a little longer. Because of this, I have two arthroscopic scars on either side of my knee cap In addition, I have one scar towards the middle of my shin and one scar towards the middle of my thigh to pull the graft through. And from the hamstring graft, I have a scar on the back of my knee. In my first injury, I partially tore and flipped my meniscus. To repair this, I needed an incisi ..read more

An Eventful Summer
My Road to Recovery

Hi everyone! Summer is coming to a close; school starts next Wednesday for me! I have mixed emotions for the upcoming year. I am totally stoked for senior year, but I’m also really scared for it. This year is going to go by in a blast and before I know it, I’ll be in college. Here is a recap of my summer! I attended a medical camp at the end of summer! I’ve been interested in medicine ever since my first injury and wanted to really dive into it to see if it is a field that I want to pursue in the future. It was an introductory camp so I learned basic skills such as suturing, taking blood press ..read more

Hi everyone. I can’t believe it’s already almost May! That’s crazy. Good news! Water polo started at the end of March! We’ve been having practice Monday-Saturday for the past several weeks. In fact, we had our first two games starting two weeks ago! I haven’t played too much, but I’m fine with that because I get to learn the game better and figure out what I need to do once I go in. I actually had an assist and stopped a goal last week! I really love water polo and I think that it is so important that I found something to take soccer’s place in my life. And honestly, I think that I’ve found th ..read more

Frustrations
My Road to Recovery

Happy New Year! Finally 2021. 2020 was the longest yet shortest year I’ve ever experienced. I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe. I have been experiencing some knee pain after I run ever since I was cleared to run from my last surgery. This is extremely frustrating for me because I am 1.5 years out from my surgery and I am still bothered by pain. I know that this is something that I’m going to have to live with for the rest of my life, but it still is annoying. It is the last couple of days before the second semester starts. Winter Break has been really beneficial for my mental and p ..read more
