Time is a flat circle and we’re reading Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. The last time either of us read the Twilight series, it was 2008 and we read it at the very beginning of our friendship. We were both different people and the world was a different place. What do we think of Edward and Bella today versus 16 years ago? Are we Team Edward or Jacob? (Or someone else…?) We’ll talk about the book, as well as its cultural impact (we know WE KNOW) in our 100th episode. Also discussed: our friend’s birthday party, our disbelief over where this podcast has taken us, and Veronica’s upcoming anthology ..read more

This week we’re immersing ourselves back into The Bachelor-esque world Kay Marie has curated for The Love Lie! Loyal listeners might remember the first installment in this series, The Love Rematch from Episode 73. In this followup, we see the aftermath of Emily’s decision to swap places with her identical twin Samantha. As we learned in the epilogue of The Love Rematch, the twin swap didn’t exactly go according to plan…so what happened? Kay Marie fills us in–and sets us up for book three–in The Love Lie. Also discussed: Lexington Legendary Book Bash, the scourge of living in Ohio, and spoooooo ..read more

This week we’re clinging to the Olympics by reading The Kraken Games by Lilith Stone! Luna is the first human to have ever entered the Kraken Games in Motham City. Kai is this year’s chosen kraken, who will have to fight every single entrant in order to win–and he must win if he’d like to bring honor back to his people. Last year’s kraken lost to an orc, and Kai has been told that losing is not an option. The only thing is…Luna and Kai met before the Games. And they had a *real* good time together, which is a problem because Luna hates kraken and kraken generally hate humans. Also discussed: V ..read more

Your favorite foul-mouthed hostesses are extraordinarily happy to welcome back S.L. Prater! And this time she’s a guest host! The last time she was here (Ep. 35), we didn’t really know her, but that was 20 episodes ago and we’re basically besties now. Colleen Cowley is one of her favorites, so we’re reading The Opposite of Magic with her! Who will she choose for stunt casting? How many eggplants will she give it? Also discussed: Olivia the Pig, an oddly shaped Christmas present, and round two with COVID (ABCDEF-U, COVID!)

Back to our regularly scheduled programming, we read Muffin Top by Avery Flynn! BBW heroine Lucy is debating going home to her 15th high school reunion when her best friend’s soon-to-be brother-in-law plops down in the chair opposite her and offers to be her date. Frankie is on a self-imposed celibacy streak and is looking forward to the distraction. What could possibly go wrong? They definitely won’t fall in love with all that fake dating and forced proximity. Also discussed: The Olympics (!!!!!), Veronica’s upcoming book signings and special editions (pre-order form here!), and inexplicably ..read more

Slight change of plans! We got an ARC of Not Another Love Song by Julie Soto, so we pulled an audible and read that one instead. Given our background in music, this one was catnip for us. Xander and Gwen play in the same pops orchestra–although they don’t really play “together.” In fact, he doesn’t even know she’s in the orchestra until she tells him at an outside gig. When Gwen lands the promotion Xander has wanted for years, they’re forced to work together. Can they make beautiful music together or will Xander’s surly attitude keep them apart? Also discussed: Corn Daddy, the orchestra world ..read more

Welcome back, dearest gentle readers! We watched the second half of Bridgerton Season 3 and we have THOUGHTS. Some of those thoughts are good and some of them are bad and some of them made us shout “WE DON’T CARE ABOUT THIS.” After this, we’ll be waiting for two years for Benedict’s story. (eyeroll.)

Riders, you are not ready. This week, we’re diving into Downpour by Maggie Gates. Downpour picks up during that critical moment when Ray is in the chute, waiting for the gate to open. We see snapshots of his recovery and the process of him becoming more independent, but he still needs some at-home assistance. Enter: Brooke, a beautiful disaster attempting to burn his kitchen down. Also discussed: the perfection of Margot Robbie, Veronica’s upcoming book release, and non-vacation vacations.
